@Izzie,
Hiya Izzie,

Nothing much is new. Still talking with fake vocal cords. Not a good thing, but I'm more audible than I was. And I have no choice. I start talking and the fake cords kick in.

Taste buds are very slowly returning. I'm now eating chocolate ice cream. I gag only occasionally.

I'm trying different cookies. How many Oreos can a person eat! Chocolate chip cookies taste muddy. Today I'm trying a chocolate chip cake. Hoping for less mud.

Made some chicken parmagiana. I tasted everything. And it was good. Spaghetti and meatballs, less good. Lamb chop, a success.

Pepsi, my beverage of choice, tastes muddy. But if I add ice, it tastes less muddy.

Still having problems with most sweets and with citrus.

Today was the last day with my therapist. She's been wonderful. I met her replacement, who also seems wonderful but in a different way.

Also met the woman who runs the cancer clinic. A most impressive and extremely likable woman.

All in all, things could be woise, and have been. Smile

@Roberta,
I'm so happy to 'see' you feeling better, Roberta. Maybe soon we can schedule a "Pepsi over ice" or Pepsi Punch party in lieu of the proposed tea party.

@Foxfyre,
Sounds good. Or you could have tea, and I could have Pepsi on the rocks.

How about the food you would eat in Manhattan's kosher delis? I'm still waiting for you to introduce me to this world. Haven't you tried anything in that area yet?

@Roberta,
More food.

More talk.

The vocal chords are false, but the voice is a little clearer.

Waiting for an egg cream to taste like heaven!!!

Can the false vocal chords make a decent voice, with practice?

And...if they can work, what's with the lazy real ones?

Take away their union card until they make with the woik already!!!

Soz, Not so much encouraging stuff. In fact not all that different from my last report (except for the chocolate ice cream and the Pepsi). I think what's different is that the therapy is having an effect. I'm no longer as miserable as I was. I sound more positive about the same lousy stuff. And I think that's a good thing.

Thomas, Not quite ready for good deli stuff yet. The things I like might be too dense. But I'm getting there. Oh, the smell of a kosher deli! There's nothing wrong with my olfactory sense. Like poifume.

deb, The fake vocal cords will not make a voice. But they make me audible in a very gravelly way. My real vocal cords are nonunion. And nonfunctioning. I've tried egg creams a few times. Still no go. When I have an egg cream that tastes like an egg cream (pause)...can't think what. But I'll be thrilled. Miss dem egg creams big time. I used to have one every night before I went to sleep. Now plain old milk.

@Roberta,
Have you tried mud yet? Maybe it tastes like chocolate now, and it's a lot less expensive!

@Thomas,
I'd have to hunt around to get genuine mud. Unless I water my plants and slurp up the wet dirt. I'll give it some thought.

Sad thing is, if it doesn't work, it will still taste the way chocolate tastes to me. And Pepsi without ice. Plain old doit.

My swallowing doctor told me that chocolate is one of the last tastes to return. What a woild.

Thinking about the deli, Thomas. You made my mind water. (My mouth doesn't water even when there's water in it.)

I just got a call from a neurosurgeon at Bellevue.

They're reviewing my case. He's not sure that my not having surgery for the tumor in my head is a good idea. He's going to schedule another MRI.

I'm hysterical. Panicky. Wild with fear.

@Roberta,
Their indecisiveness is not what we used to call "a real confidence builder", is it?

I try to be positive and cheerful, but it's not my natural state. Sometimes the effort conflicts with my natural honesty. I know! I'll just shut up.

@Roberta,
Calm, Roberta. Calm. Imagine the best possible outcome. Stuff doesn't happen until it happens. The stuff we can't control will happen without ruining our now fretting about it. And most of the worst we imagine never ever happens.

But still, knowing that telling somebody not to worry is futile--I'm facing my own medical issues right now so I know--I will still sit and wait with you. (Looking for a tea concoction we can enjoy together.)

@Foxfyre,
Um, looking on the bright side. What bright side? Well, Bellevue seems to have an internal review system that is working, and that's good in general.

I won't tell you not to worry.

Picture me swearing a blue streak.

I agree re the only good thing being the thoroughness and pooled expertise that is being given to your situation.

Waiting with you.
