The radiation guy may be able to give me a better guess than the ENT. Trust me. He knows more about this.

Reminds me of the time Sozobe and I were discussing this on a hearing thread. We agreed the ENT docs sounded like they were making up their stories up as they went along. Mine mumbled, too. He hid his face behind his clip board and mumbled. If your's doesn't mumble, he's probably not the real thing.

Rockhead, One of my favs. Big time thanks.

Roger, I've seen a different ENT each time. Not much mumbling that I recall. A bunch of phonies, all of 'em.

I'm back. No cancer. Everything looks fine. The pain is normal. The lack of voice, less so. It can come back at any time.

Waaaaaaaah.

@Roberta,
Hey, sucks about the voice but some Very Good News there too. Thanks for the update!

There is something I just thought of for communicating on the phone. Sprint relay offers "voice carry over" -- this is when I talk to the person on the other end of the phone directly, while a relay operator types what the other person is saying. That means that I can read what they're saying, while I speak for myself instead of typing back.

I think this goes the other way too, for people who can hear but not speak. That is, you would type to a relay operator, who voices that text for you -- then you can hear directly what the person you're speaking to has to say.

Let me research that and get back to you, just a sec....

Edit: wait, that's Australia, but will leave it since it explains how it works well.

I hope, all the other miserabilities will be fine soon, too, ...

@sozobe,
Hmm, this is close but not quite what I'm looking for:

http://www.sprintrelay.com/relay_service.htm

Can you speak at all, just hard to hear? Or basically nothing?

There's also no reason you can't use plain old IP relay -- you type what you have to say, and they type back. They don't require that the person using it be deaf.

@sozobe,
I wrote to Sprint customer service, here's their reply:

Quote:
Hello [me], thank you for contacting Sprint Relay Customer Service. If your friend also lives in America, they could use a feature of relay service called "Hearing Carry Over". This is for persons who can no longer speak but can hear. HCO is not available using the internet relay service; however, your friend could use a TTY device in order to type their part of the conversation. The relay operator will read that aloud to the other party on the line, then when that party replies the hearing speech disabled person will listen on their phone line. You did not mention your state location, or I would be happy to provide further information specific to your state relay service. Feel free to give me a call at 800-676-3777 for further information.

I wrote back saying you live in Noo Yawk, will relay further info.

I have a tty that I never ever use, could send that to you if you'd like. There are also free ones available through many different places.

So, no more radiation or surgery? How could they be so wrong?

I've been waiting for a check for payment for work I did in January. It's very late. I found out a little while ago that there's a levy on it. I'll find out tomorrow who put the levy on it.

I have $50 in the bank and about $20 in my wallet. That's all I have in the world. I'm hysterical. I'm going over the edge on this one, gang.

Well, darlink, it's very good to know that everything is "normal"

But wouldn't it be good if normal was a damn sight faster?

Hang in there, Roberta!
