Yes, the sound is usually funny. JOKES about the sound are not.
This is my basic postulate on the subject.
"How dare you fart before my wife!"
"Oh, I am sorry sir... I didn't know it was her turn."

Again, that is not technically a fart joke. It, like the one about the two flies, is an etiquette joke.

well then. i guess you'll just have to tell one that you don't find funny. so far they've been funny, but you're failing them as fart jokes.... what IS a fart joke then?

And that scene contains actual farting, so you see, my premise still stands.
