@ossobucotemp,
My closest friend in the world has literally less than twenty living family in the world. What they did to escape is astounding.

@bobsal u1553115,
Can any of them write? Not that writing is everything, but even scribbled diaries can matter.

I'm not so sure re internet, lotta clowns, but given some reasonably good writing...

@cicerone imposter,
I think that may have been a bit before my time, heard about the movie. In the seventies when I was mostly a child, movie series seem to be a thing, back when Roots and Centennial and of course, The God Father, I fell in love with the bad guy, Jake on Centennial.

They don't make movie like they used to, no we have to live with crappy movies like Independence Day, the worst overblown movie of all time I think.

@revelette2,
They still make some good movies, but not enough for us to go to the movie theater to see them regularly as in the past. My wife and I did go to see the latest Star Trek yesterday. I thought it was very good entertainment, and worth the money.

Aw, well, I am not big on Star Trek, ...but to each his/her own. Glad you got out with your wife.

@ossobucotemp,
By the way, tuition was free in the time my friends and I went there, some were from fair miles/hours away. One friend had something like eleven siblings.

I consider myself ******* lucky, being pre Reagan, whom I well remember.

@Blickers,
Yeah, that photo was taken in Üllöi út, in front of the then-Kilian Barracks, a famous location of the 1956 battles.

Here's what the view towards that building looks like now.

Wow, what a difference. Thanks for that shot, nimh.

It's uplifting when you see a scene of pure devastation turned back to a place that's full of life.

@Lash,
So what do they see as an alternative? vote for a candidate that has no chance of winning or a madman ?? In all cases the US Supreme Court lies at stake and ALL the progressive steps that have been hard won by people getting hurt, beat up, and even killed.

Its like "Ill show my wife not to cheat on me, Ill shoot my dick off"
reasoning logic

I wonder if sociologists, ethicists, or moral philosophers could have a better understanding of the best working model for our society?

Would you rather put the subject at hand into the hands of politicians attorneys or paleontologists ?

I've been asking her and others this since back during the early days of the Bernie/Hillary contest. They never have had much of a coherent answer. I remember giving up reasoning with them when they started saying stuff like 'the nation will survive a Trump presidency, and it will give liberal forces a wake up call'.

@farmerman,
Although that's a really cute dickless analogy, it's more like a divorce. Divorces are messy, & an upheaval for the one who wants the divorce and the one who doesn't. Ultimately, it's the only solution.

I've been cheated on, abused, stolen from, and lied to. I want a ******* divorce.

Keep your dick. Get a divorce.

We're going to have to tear it down to get a better one.

@edgarblythe,
Stein's a bloody idiot, unfit for office. She's not a serious politician like Caroline Lucas. The sad truth is that the only candidate capable of being president is Clinton, none of the others have a clue.

There is no choice it's like interviewing for a driving job and finding out that only one of the applicants has a driving licence.

@snood,
She demos her vast cluelessness. Its the scary naivete that the greenies and the Bernsters had demonstrated.
I do not want the Supreme Court to go harder right than it already is. Too many people have died to get us where we are. I can live with much of the idiocy that the Right has attempted because it can be slowly changed away . I just dont want any more rights eroded
I see it all as a generational thing. (Even a more reasonable definition of the second amendment will not happen with a present day to day battle between the left qnd the right). Its probably gonna take a century of decaying of civilization before we all "Get it". Im a gun owner but even I cant abide a Somalia- like state where everyone is armed and brandishing guns as a acceptable means of problem solving. Thats just fuckin insane. (I recall OMSIG Dave, the libertarian gun owner [now deceased].) He would brag about brndishing his guns but would Never hve come to the aid of anyone who was threatened by another gun brandisher. So where did his argument of an"armed society is a polite society" . He was clueless of th fact that the insane portion of society is statistically significant. AND, these folks should NOT be armed. PERIOD. Yet he, and his "followers" would not budge in favor of any reasonable gun control.

BUT I DIGRESS

Howevver, should e let a Trump become elected by an act thqt is purely symbolic, would allow for the loss of quality -of-life merely by allowing him to reverse many of the civil rights issues that were under the Courts perview . AND that would be really sad. I dont think that Trump is actually smart enough to not be played by some really nefarious "Svengali" like a Carl Rove or David Koch aand he would stupidly allow for introductions of court decsisions that would undo lots of landmark decisions.

So,"Sticking it to a system" that has caused Edgar and Lash to become so militantly socialist that they would WASTE their votes by something thats merely symbolic WILL NOT help them achieve anything nor will it do any good for the rest of us.
It will only help usher in the clueless donald who can do more damage to she ship of state in one term than weve managed to wrest from the "gilded age" mindset that had only really begun to be undone with Franklin Roosevelt.

"symbolic voting" while very noble sounding, is simply idiotic . It IS shooting ones dick off to serve as a "lesson" to a cheating lover. Im afraid that LAsh needs to sit down an carefully analyze what the hell she is even considering.
Ushering in a prolonged generation of right wing undoing of the meager progress of fairness and civil rights is just dumb headed (especially when you call yourself a progressive). All said-- Bernie has recognized that he better help retain whats good and slowly build to obtain whats better, and this can only be done by denying Trump his potentially scary regime.

Bernis on bord with that. Of course its imperfect.
But history has shown that, with a past president like James Buchanan, who, although anti slavery himself , didnt mess with the Kansas Nebraska Act, and he didnt mess with the Democrats holding their 1860 convention in a place that would guarantee a southern "Mindset" to the Democratic Party. This assured Lincoln his win as president and guaranteed the secession of southern states even before Lincoln took office ALL BECAUSE BUCHANAN felt that he couldnt (in good conscience) oppose any of these little " symbolically recoverble" moves , the total weight of which , merely helped in starting a bloody civil war. Of course there were plenty of other reasons, but Buchanan, being the dimwitted asshole that he was, did his best to help write some of our hitory books > I think hes only now being recognized fully as the dipshit of all time >(Im not saying Trump's gonna outshine Buchanan, but why , like a Barnie Fyfe, give him his loaded gun by electing him with a purely "Symbolic act" of wasting ones vote.

I think Ill try to get some sleep, my acide reflux seems much better (next time Im not gonna douse my burrito with a pint of salsa verde)
