I Am a Walking Disaster

Ok, I really need to remember that I am 8 months pregnant and take better care of myself.

Last night, we picked up the last piece of the nursery furniture. The box it came it was laying on the floor and I stepped on it. I did a little split. Any one who has been pregnant knows that your joints loosen up like nuts and I think I pulled something in my groin. Nice.

Anyway, I felt so sick last night and was having contractions. I thought for sure I had somehow managed to put myself into pre-term labor.

Well, this morning has come and I didn't have a baby so all seems to be well.

But it got me thinking.....

My nether regions are a little funny feeling and I just don't feel right today...so today I am working furiously on getting my work training materials together for the person who will be covering for me on maternity leave. Because it dawned on me....I might not be in tomorrow. Shocked

Yikes, Bella Dea - got to be careful there. Checked in with your doctor? At 8 months, you're probably just starting your weekly visits?

As big as you get in the last trimester, how d'you manage to forget that you're preggers?

No....I didn't. I was planning on calling today if the contractions hadn't stopped.

I don't really "forget" but some days I feel pretty good and not really 8 months pregnant. Laughing I know that sounds weird but I can't make myself slow down....I know I have to. My husband is getting mad at me because I continue to do things like I am not pregnant.

Isn't that a typical sign of late term pregancy?

The burst of energy and feeling of well being, the need to get things all ready?

I've known a number of pregnant women who've said they really felt great toward the end.

8 months?
Hey, that baby could come any time now....me and all my siblings were just about 4 weeks early. All healthy (well except the first, but she was 2 months early and had a relatively minor problem)

You're gonna be a mommy any time now.

Oh lord don't say that. That would mean I'd be 35-36 weeks only! I am almost 33 weeks right now. She needs to hold on in there for at least 3 more weeks!

Seriously, last night I thought I was going to go into labor.

I actually started running through my head what I should have done at work and what should have been done by the time this baby came.

Today I have to get some of that done.

It made me realize that any day this baby could be here!

Bella--

Face it. For this great milestone of your life you are not the one in charge. Your daughter is warning you that she intends to be a Liberated Woman--starting now.

Hold your dominion.

No one here believes me that she will be a July baby.

Now you all got me thinking perhaps she'll be a June baby. Confused

I'm thinking July or maybe august. You're an evil mama Bella and I never liked you anyway.

Bella I quit working at the end of March for my first son who was due in mid May (I've posted elsewhere about my commute from hell). I figured that would give me lots of time to finish up the nursery -- painting, curtains etc -- as well as get the house organized for the big event.

We got the painting done and I bought cheerful kite printed material for curtains. Cleaned the oven! (If you get the urge to clean your oven you might just as well pack that little overnight bag.) Walked and walked and walked everywhere. Mid April my husband got hit from behind by a driver who fell asleep -- he was okay but the car was a mess -- so we were dealing with insurance, auto body repair, etc. So the 25th I went into labour. All we had was the loaner car (a Pinto!) and it was low on fuel. We had to stop for gas on the way to the hospital (this put me in a great mood) and my flustered husband made a (posted) illegal right turn on a red right in front of a motorcycle cop. We got an escort to the hospital instead of a ticket Very Happy

I'd managed to get the curtains hung but I suspect my son was walking before they got hemmed. Life is what gets in the way of all your carefully made plans.

Funny story tai

Yeah, I've known pregnant women who do things in their 8th month like buy a house, or move, or both.

What the hell?

I'm like...do you think this is the best time to make this huge decision and take this project on?

The other day I saw this hugely pregnant woman walking along, proably about a mile from the nearest place where she could possibly have lived. I wondered if she had her first pains how she'd feel about getting all the way back home.

Don't you feel like you've got be be close to transportation or you house?

hmm...I guess she probably had her cell phone, but still.

I don't know what it is about the walking, Chai. Maybe it's that you're just so damn restless waiting for the big day to arrive. Maybe standing helps convince the baby to move to a head down position. (Bet somebody here knows the real reason.)

As far as making life altering decisions, well, the same hormones that relax your muscles for childbirth apparently act on the brain as well Smile

I should have said no one here at my home...not on A2K.

Althought I appreciate the support (and the insult) for a July baby. I want her out at her earliest convenience!

Actually, walking does encourage labor. While in labor, if you walk, your contractions get stronger and therfore makes labor go faster. How much faster, I have no idea.

As for me, I went home for lunch today. Let the dog out, made myself a quick lunch. Instead of sitting down to rest, I decided to put the few dishes in the sink into the dishwasher, pick up the trash and take it to the dumpster, scoop the poop from last night and this morning, feed the dog, change the roll of tp (why can't men see it's out!) and pick up her toys.
I can't sit still. Confused Even though I feel like crap today.

Well you definitely sound like you're in the home stretch Bella. Don't worry if the baby's a little early. Both mine were 2 weeks early and healthy at 7 1/2 pounds. Its like something inside said, "That's big enough! Out!"

I'd tell you to try and rest now before the big day but from memory of my own circumstances that would just be wasting my breath. I know it's really hard to sleep but do try to at least relax and put your feet up.

I still have 7 1/2 weeks til my due date! That's why I am sort of freaking about this all. That is still really early, and I am pretty certain (95%) of when I got pregnant so even if the doc was off by a week or 2 (which I think he is) , that still puts me a few weeks away.

There are numerous signs pointing to early delivery, but of course, as we all know, that could be just me being paranoid or just regular preggo pains.
