So Setanta - let me see if I understand you here. You say that you will not discuss religion in real life unless forced into it. Am I right to think that this doesn't apply to the discussions you participate in in this internet forum? Because its obvious no one forces you to attend the S&R threads.
So what is your motivation for opening those threads to begin with, if you flee from such discussions in your everyday life?
Did you post that because you wanted to give everyone the impression that you are obtuse and stupid?
I haven't said that i won't discuss religion in "real life" unless forced into it, and no one, including a big bad hero like you, could ever force me to discuss what i don't want to discuss. I don't "flee" such discussions in everyday life, i simply have no interest in them, and far from fleeing, i'll get in someone's face and get hostile if they are attempting to peddle their imaginary friend superstition to me, and persist after i've told them that i'm not interested. That goes for any clown here who ever meets me in real life, and who thinks, because of their pigheaded hubristic arrogance, that i'm essentially a coward and that he or she can back me down. If that's what you think, Snood, PM me with a time and a place we can meet and we'll work it out so that you can show me just what a Christian soldier and hero you really are.
I have also posted several times in this thread that this is a discussion site, and that anyone who posts anything on any topic cannot expect to get only the responses they like. Anyone who posts at a discussion board such as this, and who can't handle any type of response they get, had better scoop up all their marbles and go home. Those who have both strength of character and the courage of their convictions won't be bothered by any comments i can make, and anyone who can't deal with it deserves to be laughed to ridicule.
Frankly, i find many of the people who post in S&R to be both idiots, and hateful sumbitches who peddle exclusionary venom--i take great pleasure in rubbing their noses in their stupidity and hatefulness. If you have a problem with that, it's your problem, and not mine.

The only people more inimical to the peace and freedom of our society than the Jesuits and the dull-witted robots they brainwash and program, are the loony Protestant charismatics and fundamentalists, but especially the Baptists.
The only difference between the stupid, loony Christian fanatics and the Muslim suicide bombers is that the Christians are almost always the beneficiaries of historical theft, and have something to lose. The Muslim bombers have nothing to lose, and therefore are willing to blow themselves to hell if they can take some of their enemies with them.
Christians, however, long ago began stealing the best the world had to offer, and profiting from institutions such as slavery, so they have a lot to lose. They'll just engineer a phony war, and send someone poor man or woman's child off to die for them.
There may be people more idiotic and gullible than Christian true-believers, but you're gonna need to give me a few days to get back to you on that one.

And in case some smart aleck asks, whats the point of my post here: it's wondering why people get such satisfaction from smacking down believers that they'd fill 18 pages with it.
I mean, in a thread like this its hardly like you were provoked - no Christian or Muslim came to you to bother you with his religion in this thread - the whole point was apparently from the start to come on in and say believers are stupid. At length.
You must have an odd definition of "wise." It has not been 18 pages of people saying that religious people are goofy.
Most people showed up to respond that they did not consider it reasonable to characterize the religiously devout in the manner in which the author of the thread had done. Snood posted a long copy-and-paste screed, at the end of which he asked if would could all not just get along. I responded that i didn't think that were possible because there are religious fanatics. Soz quoted me and complained about the venom which had been flung at the religious. I pointed out that i had specified the religious fanatic, and not all people of religious devotion. Soz couldn't let it alone, though, and wanted to get all indignant, so i pointed out that i thought that she and Snood were engaged in special pleading on behalf of religious beliefs as opposed to all other types of belief. Soz denied that, so i let that go, but i continued to make that claim against Snood, because this is a topic over which he loses his temper, and has in the past said that religion is somehow entitled to some special respect as a belief set.
The author has come back to the thread to continue to insist that religious devotion is an intellectually and pyschologically suspect belief set. I have for my part, said that this is not something which matters in my "real world" life, and that the internet is a special circumstance. The discussion has largely been benign, except between Snood and me, because he can't keep a civil tongue in his head if he thinks i've not been civil about religion.
But i'm sick to death of Snood and his arrogance and his special pleading. So i've gone out of my way to be offensive to him on the subject, because it seems to me that he came back to this thread looking for a fight. I hope it pisses him off.
Hey Snood, people who think they've seen alien space vessels are about the only people as loony or loonier than the religious nut cases.
