Miranda is ill!!!

At least one of her back legs is not working properly - and she is staggering. I can't find a sore spot on her spine, and her tail is working - so I am wondering if it is a stroke.

Happened really suddenly - she fell from the sofa - but I am not sure if this is cause or effect.

Have you called the vet yet, deb? (Do you have one on 24-hr. call?)

I can't afford emergency vets - unless she really needs it - then I would have to try and negotiate terms.

I have an appointment in 40 minutes.

Thing is, she is happy and comfortable - so I don't see it as an emergency - and I doubt there will be much they can do. I truly suspect something like a stroke.

It is so sudden, and there is no pain, so I do not see how it can be a spinal injury, or a degenerative process...

I do worry that this might be it, though....dammit. Or the beginning of "it".

It is a bit of a shock, cos she is normally so HEALTHY. The other cat - twice her size - is actually more fragile.

He's been bullying her too - the bastard. Playing - but enjoying his increased dominance. He finally got a smack. They are cuddled up together now, though.

Vivien, you have convinced me, I will not go to see the kitties ... I can't be trusted, damn it! I can't have another kitten in this apartment, at least not unless the association changes the law, which takes a long time.

Dlowan, I am so sorry to hear about Miranda ... I sure hope she will be okay. Please let us know how she is?

Thanks for the sympathy, goils.

It seems she very likely HAS had the pussycat equivalent of a stroke. They do not, it seems, get atheroma and such as we do, and have neurological clotting, or bleeds - but they seem to have some sort of process, thought to be inflammatory, with similar results. (Where's Patiodog???)

Anyhoo - he has given her anti-inflammatories, in the hope they may do something.

He says she will hopefully improve over the next six weeks. If she doesn't, or gets worse, we may be looking at a tumour.

She is herself - except she hates staggering and falling over - looks shocked when it happens. She can walk ok - except she wavers a bit - but starting movement, or changing direction, or jumping makes her stagger.

She is purring at my feet as we speak - but I have to go to work. Sigh.

I wanna stay with her and look after her!

So - no thoughts of euthanasia as yet.

Similar to what a very prior cat of mine had after an airline flight in cargo class. Vet found nothing, but it went away. That's nothing to count on, Deb, and likely a different syndrome.

I hope it IS like your cat, Roger!

She is 10 and a half, Debra.

I just got home from work - she is sitting quietly in her floor cushion - looks happy.

I usually refer to her as "the kitten" though - cos she is s small and bouncy. She was the most graceful and acrobatic cat I have ever known.

Ah - Miranda just came in licking her lips and purring - has obviously eaten unassisted - which is a good sign, apparently.

Cats are vile and deceitful creatures . . .

I hope that your companion remains healthy and happy for many years to come, Miss Wabbit . . .

Thank you people!!! It is awful when an animal is experiencing stuff they can't understand, isn't it?

Anyhoo - I spent the night on the sofa - cos that is where SHE sleeps - (lol) - and I wanted her to be with us.

She is as wambly and unsteady as ever this am - but she DEMANDED wet food (she is a cat kibble eater normally) - and got it! She ate quite a lot for her - and was very purry and smoochy.

Then I had to give her her tablet, which was awful, as she is so over the top in her reactions - very stressed by that.

And Oscar shat on the bed last night - his comment on the attention Miranda is getting, I guess?

I hate giving pills to cats! Nine times out of ten, it's a major undertaking. When my crabby tabby was on antibiotics for a UTI, if she saw the pill bottle -- she ran! I would have to sneak the pill out of the bottle when she wasn't looking and act nonchalant for quite awhile so she wouldn't suspect that it was pill time.

Nekochan at home, awaiting company, perhaps the chipmunk who lives nearby-- or Max, her chum from two doors away, who should show up any minute now.

Dlowan - I'm sorry to read about Miranda! It makes my worries about my little hair-plucking, rat-tailed kitty seem petty.

I'm glad to read that you saw the vet quickly. I sure hope he's right and she'll improve over the next few weeks. Please keep us posted. And pamper her all you want. It will be good for both of you.

I can't give pills to my cat, Rosie. She spits them out. No, I don't mean she shakes her head and they fall out...I mean she forceably spits them four or five feet! (And the vet said cats can't do that...hahahaha! Wrong.) I have to give her medicine in liquid form only.

Give ol' Oscar a chuckle under the chin from me. Wink
