Thanks again, kind folks.

It's OK for everyone to talk about their own critters again. So, what's the latest news?

I know that, Deb. Very Happy
It's just that I don't want anyone feeling that they can't post their own critter stories.

The cat's name made me think of another cat from years ago.

My wife's friend had a cat named "Meeps", named that because instead of meowing it just went "meep". The cat was also a lousy hunter, never able to bring home any "trophys" for its master.

One day, there was a commotion at the door "Scratch, meep!, scratch, meep!", and there was Meeps, very proud of the oh-so-flat bluejay he'd peeled off the local roadway.

Damn Msolga, I am so sorry for flatty. I think that was a very neat way to have him just drift off , safe in your lap. Thats all a cat needs , some food and a loving lap on which to rest.
You did real good by him.

Long distance hug to you..

My youngest girl is in heat again, but it's not nearly as bad as the first time. Nevertheless, she has an appointment to be fixed at the end of the month. I'm not looking forward to my baby having surgery, but it must be done.

Lately, the baby girl (nearly two) has been curling up next to my middle girl--the crabby tabby (10 years old)--for naps. It appears that tabby is finally STARTING to accept the newcomer. About time! LOL

Yes, that surgery must be done, Debra! Or perhaps you're secretly hankering for a huge number of beautiful little critters running all over the place?

And that's great that the new cat is finally getting along with your established nose-out-of-joint tabby. Peace at last! Hooray!

Did I read correctly that you have three cats, Debra? We have three also. We started out with two Maine Coon kittens about six years ago. One of them was chronically ill and only lived for two years. Prior to these two we had always been a one cat family but once we had the boys we realised that two was so much better than one.

Mr B and I both had Maine Coons as members of our families while growing up so we are both attached to the breed. About a year after Max died we decided to get another kitten so Kato wouldn't be so lonely. We found a breeder with a new litter and went to visit. They had a litter of six and we were torn between two of them. Mr B was particularly attached to one and the girls were attached to another. I secretly agreed with the girls so I campaigned to take them both, pleading that a kitten would adjust to Kato and to us much easier if he had his brother along.

We brought Jack and Mongo home and Kato was NOT happy. We kept the kittens in our bedroom/bathroom for a few days and let Kato in every so often to check them out. He wanted nothing to do with them. Mongo proved himself to be bold and fearless, Jack was timid and spent much of his time under the bed.

A few days later, I was sitting in my upstairs office, the kittens had the run of the bedroom/office area and Kato had the rest of the house. All of a sudden Jack started howling, howling, howling at the door that separates the bedroom area from the living area. We ran out to see what was wrong and he continued to cry at the door. I opened the door to see Kato sitting on the other side. Jack ran to Kato, folded himself in Kato's legs, and before my astonished eyes, Kato started licking him. They've been best buds ever since.

Mongo, even though he's Jack's litter mate is the odd guy out. He get's special people attention to make up for it. For some reason Jack is third man on the totem pole at meals. Kato (who is king at all times) and Mongo eat first while Jack patiently waits his turn. Strange dynamics.

Here are Jack and Mongo. They are now about 18 lbs each. http://www.mellokat.com/JackMongo_sitepic.jpg

We don't have any pictures of Kato that will link here. I'll have to figure out a way to upload some of him - he 22 lbs of georgous white fur.

I knew a pair of Maine Coon cats who ate nearly 7 pounds of raw turkey that had been defrosting on the counter.

Maine Coons are absolutely gorgeous - I 'd love one, but then I'd love a Siamese as well. We've always had rescued alley cats Smile

Farmer how are you? and how is your gorgeous Maine Coon doing?

how about the prosecution?

Debra_Law,

I should have KNOWN you were a cat person! Very Happy

Vivien,

Well, how about a Himalayan? This is Poly. He just came to my shelter the day before yesterday. He's 2 1/2 years old and has papers! His eyes are so blue but they didn't show up in the picture.

cjhsa,

I am not the best at taking pictures of cats so you can see their eyes! Poly's eyes are such a beautiful blue! I am trying to find the picture of the cat in the mirror I took. It's a hoot! Found it!

Turn off your flash and try to use natural light. All digital cameras with built in flash have a way to disable the flash, quite simply. The "red eye reduction" mode is designed for humans, not animals, so don't count on that.
