farmerman,

You spoke of the despicable thing that happened to your cat, but no one else, it seems, was actually allowed to respond, or be acknowledged in their sympathy or outrage at what happened. No further discussion would be allowed, it seems ..... You changed the subject when you did get a response to the things you told us. So is this is a private matter between you & cjhsa, then? I've come across this before, on another thread, when I've attempted to support your (absolutely correct) position on another issue of animal exploitation/cruelty .... Frankly, I'm a bit perplexed.

Farmerman, again, I'm sorry you lost your pet. I'm happy that you had a legal agreement with the "hunters", who apparently didn't read it. I hope this all works out in your favor.

I've always appreciated your commentary here at A2K and found you to be a very reasonable poster. At the same time I ask that you not judge all hunters based on your unfortunate experience with this individual. Good luck.

msolga. Please. dont take offense. Ive felt that my posting of my trevails was an intrusion on this otherwise calm thread. No, I didnt want to stymie any response, I just thought that my ill manners were showing. Please, if you feel compelled to respond, I will talk more about this.

As far as cj and I, we dont see eye to eye. Im a gun owner and a recent reentrant into goose and rabbit hunting. I hunt with my dog for rabbits and using cammo for geese. Many times I see a cat that I recognize wandering nearby while Im sitting in the "sneak box" for hours waiting for some geese to show up.
I always think that, seeing the cat walk about, trusting that I wont shoot is just the same as if it were some little kid.
We train animals to trust everyone, then some fool shoots them. There is no valid reason or excuse. Cj is saying tht these guys are a minority. Im not so sure. I see a lot of dangerous hunting and poor sportsmanship out there.

Also Msolga, believe it or not, it still hurts inside, Lucky was a sweet little hooligan who'd as soon jump in the sneak box and just huddle up with the hunters and take a nap. She was very trusting. Im sure she wasnt a difficult shot.
I still get a little choked up when I see her food bowl next to the fireplace (her spot for formal dining)

I think please you should drop the subject now cjhsa - we've all heard your views and disagree. Why upset Farmer further by pushing your views? please stop.

Farmer - you aren't intruding, grief at the loss of a much loved pet should be open to discussion along with the joys of your gorgeous maine coon cat. And your anger is justified and your actions are good and right, Good luck to you.

I love that companionability of the draped paw to keep in contact Very Happy Rosie will sometimes do that and when travelling in the car likes to have her paw held! Rolling Eyes I end up driving one handed and when I let go to change gear she flaps it at me to hold it again!

well you did earlier state that it would be between you and the cat. You left me with an assumption that the world is divided into
Hunters (cj)
and Targets (my cat)

You made me feel further like **** for not saying anything with a cell call to Mrs F and tell her not to let Lucky outside cause the goose hunters were about.Of course I should have called but I wasnt really sure that they were hunting and maybe just putting up new decoys into the sneak box (blind)

We had some goose hunters stop today and tell my wife that they were going to be hunting. She told them that the fields were closed because some members of their club shot our cat.

The hearing was already postponed by the one hunters lawyer. Its obvious that they are already paying for legal advice.

Now that is a perfectly reasonable response. Not that it matters what I think.

No, no, it's not that I took offense, farmerman. Definitely not. I was more that I was perplexed. You started to discuss Lucky's awful death a few times, on different threads. Then, when folk attempted to discuss it (any cat owner would be in despair if something like that happened to a pet they're responsible for.) it was as though you wanted to cut the discussion short. I figured maybe it was because you found the subject too upsetting. But it perplexed me that you seemed to feel the need to explain your position to cjsha. I couldn't understand why any explanation of your position was required to anyone, particularly to cjhsa, who was responding to such a sad & tragic situation with so little compassion.

Farmerman:

I would be spitting nails, using foul language, and wringing someone's despicable neck if someone used one of my cats for target practice. After an abundant explosion of fury, I would grieve forever. It's hard enough to lose a beloved pet from an accident or illness--but it must be a thousand times harder for you to lose Lucky through a deliberate act of cruelty. I hope you make the culprit's life miserable for a very long, long time so that he will rue the day that he took his rifle and aimed it at your cat.

Oh, I believe it, farmer. I still can feel very anguished when reminded of terrible deaths of particular cats, sometimes from years ago. They are such characters, cats. Once you've spent years getting to know their particular personalities through coexisting with them, it is natural to mourn their loss. No other cat will be quite like the one that has died. Each one is quite unique. But when a cat you know & love & who totally trusts you, meets their death in such a hideous & avoidable way, well of course you're going to be extremely distraught. You must have gone over any number of "what ifs ..." & "if onlys ...." But, it wasn't your fault. No one expects things like this to happen. You couldn't have known. Some moronic idiots came onto your property & did that terrible thing, that's all. And you won't feel better about the loss of that poor little trusting cat for a while. <sigh> But try to stop blaming yourself, it wasn't your fault.

I felt terrible for you, too, farmer, when I read those comments. I won't say any more about it. That was just despicable, cjhsa. Shame on you.

Yep, I'm a despicable, cat killing, insensitive, out of touch with nature turd.

And you're Elle Macpherson.

When I talk about my private hunting property, I'm talking someplace remote enough there are no domestic kitties running free in the woods. If I do see a cat, it would be assumed to be wild and feral, and thus, a huge problem for native wildlife. Bye bye kitty.

Too many folks here with nothing better to do than use their time to dump on me. Farmerman isn't one of them. He's the real deal and I like him, even if it isn't reciprocal.

didnt say that cj. Im just giving a turn of thought about the hunters out there. Im watching them now. They arent the "brotherhood" that my dad touted, somethings changed from my youth and it kinda pisses me off. You and I will disagree about this and whales but youre still "family'.

Msolga, the thing about how each one of these guys is an individual is so correct. The thing about Lucky (And I wont bother you anymore about it) was that Lucky was MY buddy. I got her out of a deep elevator shaft and all the way home her little flea infested body was sitting on my lap just purring like my diesel engine. It took many trips to the doc and (apparently) shed been living on such a meager diet of pizza slices that a street person had found for her that she had this distended tummy and really foul smell and fur that looked like straw thatd been rained on. Less than 6 weeks later she was trim, healthy, sleek black fur and loved to just play with your hands. She loved to chase flashlight beams across the floor and was always going into these weird contortions whenever I came near . She loved to be petted .

Now we have Cally Cat the Maine Coon who , although shes special already, she cant meow. (Coons dont meow much,) she "chirps and makes gurgling sounds.

Debrah-Trust me, Im not a violent man anymore, Im a learned type B who grew up a type A and was very good at it.
