Greetings, cat people! You'd love Turkey as it's alive with cats; they sit in hungry groups watching the fishermen on the quay, who occasionally toss them a tiny fish. For some reason many of them have huge ears, like Egyptian cats I think.

Clary! Surprised

In the Cat Room! Surprised

I was wondering where you were. Now I know!
Please toss some small fishes to those large eared Turkish cats for me. Very Happy
So where is the Clary In Turkey thread, then?

he gets the blame for most things (with reason!) but her bad language preceded him. I think He's learnt from her on this one!

Hi Clary - I think actually we'd get pretty upset as they are all so thin and hungry - I certainly did in Greece. On holiday there?

Update on Tabitha (Tabby) and her BEHAVIOR PROBLEM.

We have been UNABLE to cure Tabby. She is still peeing on the carpet and the house stinks! I never thought I would ever put up with a CAT that destroys my home. I have cleaned the carpet so many times to no avail. I have used expensive cleaners designed for this purpose to no avail. We have no other choice but to rip out the carpet and buy new. I suppose we will have to replace the floor-boards too.

The last time we talked about putting Tabby to sleep, my honey and I both cried. It just doesn't seem right: Death Penalty for peeing. Death Penalty for causing thousands of dollars worth of damage. I look at my little darlin' all curled up in a sleeping ball on the couch . . . and all I can think about is how much I LOVE THAT LITTLE FUR BALL.

Would you . . . could you . . . give your cat the needle for ruining your carpet?

No, of course I wouldn't. I couldn't. But I'd try just about everything I could to fix the problem. Very hard to live with! I've done a quick search through this thread & can't find your original post regarding Tabitha. I guess you've consulted a vet about possible bladder problems, etc? What did the vet suggest?

it was a separate thread from what I remember msolga

what did the vet say? have you made sure she hasn't got an infection or urinary tract disorder?

does she do it when you are there or just when she's alone?

I took Tabitha to the vet weeks ago. She had a good check-up. No urinary tract infection. She's healthy.

The vet suggested several things we could do to modify Tabby's behavioral problem plus she gave me a little booklet. I've also looked on the internet for information. We've tried everything except keeping her caged 24-7 with a litter box--which is the next step. She goes bonkers when she's locked up. We have to replace all the carpeting and pray this doesn't happen again.

Both. She has peed on the carpet right in front of our faces and behind our backs and when we're not there. Even if I can't see her doing it, I can hear her scratching. After she quietly pees on one of three spots, she turns and scratches the wall. (She's not the brightest bulb.)

I haven't put the carpet cleaning machine away in months. Sad

Oh, that's a problem! You know, it might be something to do with the "residue" of pee that remains after so many pees! Maybe the cleaner doesn't completely remove it? When animals smell pee it's like a green light to pee still further. Shocked I wish I had some brilliant solutions, Debra, but I don't. Apart from ripping up the carpet & living with polished floorboards, reduced her liquid intake & extremely close monitoring of her every move! Difficult.

You know, I COULD have a cat put down for that. That is just riduculous and a terrible burden. I know how hard it would be, though. Sorry to be the deviol's advocate....but we all die, whether sooner or later, and she could do so painlessly.

I have known vets recommend tranquilisers....

I wonder, how old is she? It may be she has demented...

You have to admit, Ms. O, that anyone who gets his slippers warmed by his cat is a lucky man.

She gets groomed each morning with a -- get this -- a genuine Kent beechwood-handled men's club brush. As winter sets in, though, she gets a curry-brushing to help manage matting which is bound to occur.

Her fur is incredibly thick, earning her the nickname Bearcat.

There's a mutually observed quid pro quo arrangement in place here, Ms. O. It's only right to be totally honest with her. An example, for instance, is she isn't let outside until she gets her insulin shot. So... she hangs around the kitchen after breakfast, clearly waiting for her shot to be administered while on the counter top, after then she gets let out. Until that understanding was reached, she would make herself scarce when shot time came up. Outside time is very important to her.

Of course, neko. Cats love their outdoor time. (even if she must endure the shot to get there!) .... Chasing phantom predators, smelling the roses, hiding from you under bushes, being chased by breezes .... Lovely! Very Happy Mine is lying out on the decking as I type, enjoying the sheer joy of a lovely, sunny, windless Sunday morning. Ah, it does my heart good to see! Very Happy

Louis is no longer a kitty. He is a rambunctious teenager who looks like a BIG FRICKING CAT. His mother, who had another litter, is now gone, along with his siblings. The second litter of four was placed with new, and hopefully responsible parent/owners. Thank my son who did all the dirty work catchng them. He has a softer heart than I.

Along those lines, Louis caught and eviscerated a young squirrel about a week ago. I had to euthanize it and get it away from him. Maybe if we move to a cold climate Louis will never want to go outside again.

Am I too late to respond too the purring question? Ah, what the hell. I'm gonna.

For years I thought that Mikey didn't purr, unlike his predecessor, Miranda, who purred so loud she sounded like a Geiger counter. Mikey does purr. But he's a silent purrer. Didn't know it was happening until I touched him mid purr. He was vibrating.

As for the peeing, no, I wouldn't put a cat down for peeing on the rug. People suggested I euthanize Mikey for his biting habit. Didn't do it to save my skin. Wouldn't do it to save a rug. But there must be a solution. Gotta be!

Oh, hi, by the way. How's everybody?
