Actually gus, perhaps so have you:

In the late seventies, in Toronto, the 'Swiss Chalet" chain of restaurants was temporarily shut down when it was found that in some cases 'cat' had been substituted for chicken by one of more of the franchisees.
The ensuing notariety brought out the fact that the look and taste of the two were similar, and that many other cases in the U.S. had been discovered, and shut down.
Seems the 'usual suspects' were quite happy to be paid a pittance at the back door for 'street cat' bodies.
As with all 'new' reports, it is hard to tell where hearsay begins, and the 'truth' ends, but it evidently did happen.

Deb, The arm is fine, thanks. How is Oscar behaving? And how is the lovely Miranda?

Thanks for the sympathy, Roberta. Glad your arm is fine. (I am chastened to admit I didn't know it was NOT fine, but very glad that it is now fine.)

Olga, Cute and cuddly goes a long way. A good talker--I have mixed feelings about.

As for Mikey, what can I say? He's consistent. How's that for high praise? Also, he makes me laugh.

Those of us with bossy cats are used to random bleeding Confused Shocked

Possum's behaviour has been pretty good, with the reduction in food, but I've been away on and off, and my aunt looks after him, and that's how he got that size in the first place. He does seem to be trimming down a tiny bit - but he's still a ginormous cat. He's really long - when he stretches out there seems to be an acre of cat! (only slight exaggeration! Embarrassed ). He had big ears, eyes and feet as a kitten, and he's grown on to them! Confused

And laughter is certainly not to be sneezed at, Roberta! Give that Mikey cat a big pat from me. He's an entertainment machine, that's what he is! Laughing

Margo, I didn't realize that Possum was a big guy. Mikey is an exceedingly big guy. They also look a bit alike (white and tabby). Long lost cousins? Separated at birth? How big is Possum? In American pounds? BTW, Mikey is also very long.

Deb, No, fat doesn't count in this discussion. It counts in the diet discussion. Is he on a diet?

Belated response to Gautam's question, could a cat do this. Sure a cat could do that. The real question is would a cat do it? Only if he or she really wanted to.

Dunno - I asked him about his weight, but he declined to answer! ?Sore point! Shocked I think he weighs about 17 pounds or so. I was going to try and measure him, but his patience ran out! Any further attempts mean more blood loss Sad

Margo, Mikey doesn't like much handling either. I've got the scars to prove it. Possum is a good-sized guy. Sounds like he could block out the sun.

Now that Mikey has put on a few nonmuscular pounds, I'm guessing that he's about 22 or 23 pounds. The vet told me to keep an eye on his weight. She told me to weigh myself, then hold Mikey and weigh us both together. Mikey won't be held. He'll get weighed the next time we go to the vet.

Mrs. Cavfancier pointed out to us last night that cats are never mentioned in the Bobble, and therefore are indisputably the spawn of Satan. I feel very much vindicated by this scriptural support of what i have long contended.

one of the many benefits of never 'cummuning' with the 'Booble'! Cool

Say Setanta; those 'cats' of yours look awfully 'big'!

Catses were worshipped in ancient Egypt. Their civilization is in ruins, and has been for more than two thousand years. I rest my case . . .
