I'm going to be open here. I love to masturbate. I do it just about every day and it relieves my tension and makes me laugh and smile and generally get on with my day better. It's a good solution to the 3 o'clock energy slump I experience (and being a student, I'm not sitting in an office at 3 o'clock).
Now that you all know about my self-help habits, I should also say that I am a Christian. I know that lust is harmful because if you lust about other people directly you are basically having sex with them without them knowing it. I try to stay away from lusting after people specifically for this reason. But I do tend to fixate on sexual ideas. I want to believe that I can be one with God during masturbation. Sometimes I've even felt I've found God directly in my orgasm when I asked for Him to reveal Himself to me in that way. But I know this is controversial, and many people would think I was deluding myself (or that Satan was deluding me).
There is also the argument that masturbation is a safe way to have sex with someone you love and are committed to for the rest of your life without risking your chastity. I buy that completely. But then, are you unfaithful to your husband if you masturbate after marriage?
Thoughts on any of this?
Yes.
I think this:

is really dumb.
Daniellejean, I've been reading what you have to say for a while now, and there seems to be some huge disconnect between what you think your religion requires and who you are as a person. It really seems like you need to resolve that somehow to get some peace. I don't know how to advise you to resolve it, though.
Dear Danielle, I am glad that you are seeking for another opinoin in an area which you have doubts. Probe Ministries is a Christain apologetics website that answers many people's emails and several have had questions about just that. Here is some of what what those minded in the Word of God had to say:
Most Christians will agree that masturbation is sin for two very important reasons.
First, God has defined sex for within marriage only. The numerous Old Testament prohibitions on fornication or sexual immorality refer to any sexual experience outside of marriage. This would included self-inflicted sexual pleasure.
Second, most masturbation takes place with pornography to look at either actually or in your mind through fantasy. Since Jesus condemned not only the act of adultery but lusting in our mind, this is clearly included.
You must also keep in mind the addictive nature of nearly all sexual sin including pornography. It eventually becomes a form of idolatry. We worship our sensual pleasure over Jesus.
Jesus response to Peter's question as to how many times he must forgive (70 x 7) is meant to assure us of God's infinite capacity to forgive even habitual sin. Masturbation can only be conquered in the power of the Holy Spirit. If you follow Philippians 4:8 when tempted, you will find that the thoughts vanish or they remain only at your desire. It must become a question of Lordship: Jesus or you. The masturbation becomes only a symptom of a deeper need for intimacy with Christ. Habitual sin does not lead to questions of salvation but of Lordship.
I encourage you to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and everything else will follow. This is not to say it will be easy or quick. True discipleship is costly and our personal secret kingdoms must be rooted out one by one. But Jesus said I will never leave you nor forsake you. He meant it.

You raise a difficult and even controversial topic. Christians have disagreed on the issue of masturbation. Some allow it and some do not. Here is my take. The Bible is clear that any sexual activity outside of marriage is sin. The biblical term "fornication" (sexual immorality) simply refers to any sexual activity outside of marriage. Jesus also clearly indicated, as you mentioned, that we can commit adultery in our hearts without any physical activity involved. Part of our sanctification process is to be transformed from being self-centered to being other-centered. With this background, consider these realities. Masturbation is sexual activity outside of marriage. Most if not all masturbation is accompanied by sexual thoughts to accentuate the experience. Masturbation is essentially self-centered, seeking to fulfill one's own needs by oneself. There is no specific Biblical admonition to refrain from masturbation. However, based on the review above, it is difficult to find any justification for it either. We praise God for His finished work on the cross that allows for forgiveness of past, present, and future sin, even besetting sins.
Danielle, I will pray for you in this. It's not an easy issue. In Christ, Scott

I guess I don't have a problem with it, but would you be kind enough to quit doing it on the bus.
Oh my, so many sinners out there. Who knew!

"Self-inflicted pleasure" pretty much sums up the attitude here. Sheesh.
Masturbation makes me laugh too, but only when masturbating to pictures of clowns.
I can't help you, I think lust is great. I used to be extremely religious, but even then, I didn't get the lust is bad thing.
By the way, thank you for providing a signature line worthy quote.

Makes you want to become an atheist, no?
Daniellejean, the only advise I can give you is to do what makes you
feel good. Don't rely on someone else to make the decisions for you,
especially if that someone is a religious entity.
CJ, does that mean I should continue to spray battery acid on sleeping homeless people?
Only if you climax while doing it, Slappy.

If go is gonna forgive me for sinning then I might as well masturbate.
In fact I think i'm gonna do it right now and think about danniellejean doing it. and the fact that all the people reading this thread wil know what I'm doing.
*go = god.
sheeeet its hard to type left handed.
Well, that' a bit too much information, dadpad.
Good God, man, have some propriety.
I'm still stuck on "Probe Ministries" giving advise about masturbating.
There is an old thread in which an interesting exchange occurred:
