Aha! I've been to places that c.i. hasn't! Amazing.

I'm always an independent traveller, too, never on a tour, so I always travel more slowly, wander around more, waste more time just stopping in various places, mooching about.

Yep, me too, and worst of all, I like to go back to the same places. <shaking head sadly> I'll never have time to see these popular places. I'm too busy going to places nobody cares about... well, London & Edinburgh were on that list, but certainly not Dornie or Fort William or <snort> Ballachulish.

margo, I'm one of those strange animals that have not visited a place I didn't like. I've also returned to places I especially like for the attractions that no other place offers on this planet. A good example for me is London: They have all the best museums, and one of the world's best theater district on this whole planet. I also enjoy places with history and culture; Rome, Ephesus, Istanbul, Athens, Egypt, Beijing, Kyoto, Petra, Delhi, Moscow, St Petersburg, Warsaw, Crakow, Venice, Vienna, Paris, London, Washington DC, Bangkok, Berlin, Madrid, Lisbon, Crete, New Orleans, Mexico City, Panama Canal, Mt Everest, Taj Mahal, Lima, Buenos Aires, and so many others. For me, landscape is also important; Fjords in Norway and New Zealand, the Grand Canyon, the Rocky Mountains of Canada and the US, Chimney Rock Park in North Carolina, Victoria Falls, Niagara Falls, Cape Horn, the Serengeti, the sunsets in Africa and elsewhere. I have met and made friends with many during my travels, and still communicate with many of them from around the world. What greater reward?

My ex had to be pried out of the house to go anywhere. Never ever suggested traveling (though once on the road proceded to have a great time). My business partner would much rather stay home. Couldn't wait to get home when she and husband went to Europe last.

I have wanted to travel since...oh, age eight?? Do you suppose it's genetic?

I even like to travel when there are two suns, piffka...

Dornie? That's out-of-the-way, definitely not on the European Grand Tour. Mind you, it's thirty years since I was there; maybe it's more like Las Vegas now. Smile

c.i. I take my hat off to you. Can you drink the water in all of these places? You must have a very strong constitution.

Oh, do ya now??? Cool Anywhere there's a camera, you mean? Laughing

I've just dropped off my daughter & her bf at the airporter. It's always sad to say goodbye... and usually chaotic. This is the first big trip for the bf, who showed his amateur standing as a traveller when he mentioned being cold in the chill of the morning. Where's his jacket? Deep in his check-in bag. I'll bet he learns to keep it in his carry-on, what do you think?

McT -- eyup. Dornie, Sin City of the Highlands.

Guatam -- My preferences? Awwww, that's so sweet. I dunno. Prolly not the Mexican restaurant.

McTag, My only "strong constitution" is my ability to sit in airports and planes for untold hours. Otherwise, I drink the local brew or bottled water, and stay away from salads and fruits that I don't peel myself. It gets a bit confusing, because there are some restaurants in third world countries that cater to American tourists, and the tour guide will tell us it's okay to eat the salad. Whenever that happens, I always dig in; doing without fresh vegetables for two-three weeks is a bummer.

Osso -- And sometimes it really looks like that!

CI -- Nice new avatar. Reminds me of that Fats Domino song:

I'm walking, yes indeed,
I'm talking
For you and me and I`m hoping
That you`ll come back to me...

He does seem adept with the cool shortened words. The daughter currently has the Brit phone and I cannot remember the number. We get it in E'burgh and then it's being passed to her brother, but I'm not sure it has text capability or even a screen. It's a couple of years old and I didn't get a good look at it.

Somebody told me I could make mine an international phone for the trip, but I haven't looked into it. Should, huh? And quickly. I can charge it with a cigarette lighter plug in - do you think those are the same internationally?

teehee, C.I. - it's better than "these boots were made for walking" -- Wink arrghhhhhh

So here's some more of the lyrics (just to get those boots out of your head):

I'm walkin'
yes indeed
I'm walkin'
by you and me
I'm hopin
are you come back to me
I'm lonely
yes I can be
I'm waiting for your company
I'm hopin are you came back to me

(I'm don't think this are quite right, at least they don't make too much sense, but that's how they came off Google)

That's right! Mr. P and I are leaving for the UK in a week, heading for Scotland first and then London the weekend after. Guatam is finding a suitable place to meet on Friday the 26th.

Are you interested? We're friendly!
