McTag, I hope you and Fiona are planning to attend the San Francisco Gathering in April 2004.

Gee whizz, well, thanks c.i., but London is more accessible to us than Frisco. I wouldn't rule it out yet but I think it unlikely Sad we could attend.
Thank you kindly for thinking of us, though. I am following your exploits through these pages. Smile

Does that mean

Both, I hope.

Y'know, when I started this thread, it wasn't until Walter sent me a link that I actually purchased the plane tickets. He's my hero.

About San Francisco... I thought that was the the city in the U.S. that every European wanted to see. So romantic, intriquing. If New York City is London, then S.F. is Paris. Right?

I'd thought of New Orleans instead of S.F. - but that's just a personal view (although McTag might share it  ).

... not at all!

Nice graphic!

I guess New Orleans and Paris are a better match with that French connection. Nobody left his heart in San Francisco?

Here's an interesting list: 200 Places To Which People Go

(I've missed most... I wonder if C.I. has been to all of these?)

Minneapolis is on that list. Montreal isn't.
How truly odd.

Quebec City is. That's a good sign. It's a truly extraordinary city.

Piffka, Looks like I'm missing 44 out of those 200. Wink However, I counted Petras as one of the 44. If they mean Petra, I've been there. Wink

Jeez! I'm a truly amateur traveller! Sad

I've only seen 35 of those places. (and that includes Sydney!)

Of course, it doesn't help that I've never ventured to the Americas at all. There are some places I just don't understand. And some places I have absolutely no interest in.

How do they make up that list, do you know?

Walter is my hero, too - he's always ready to help, find a link, etc. Razz

margo, Only 'crazy' frequent travelers understand the desire to see and experience the major sights on this planet. It's amazing that we can travel half way around the world in less than one day, then spend a few precious moments mingling with the citizens of that part of the world. To see, smell, eatk, drink, and talk to some of them; and maybe even make a new friend. We are fortunate to be living in this time in our lives when transportation and communication makes so much possible.

Um, 22 places, but many close calls. Lucca instead of Pisa, a a few minutes by train away.
On the other hand, maybe the count IS right, as I tend to avoid the crowded tourist magnets.

I have no idea! I've been to 37 of 'em if you include Bombay, WA, but I haven't spent a lot of time there -- for example, I gambled a bit in Las Vegas but didn't spend the night. Cool Anyway, mine are mostly from the states. I was a bit miffed that Seattle wasn't on the list, then realized... I hate crowds anyway!

CI -- I'm sure they must have misspelled Petra. You've been to 166! I knew you'd have seen most of them. Which ones are you missing?

Okay, Piffka, I actually missed 55 cities on the list. Aix en Provence, Almafi, Anguilla, Assisi, Antwerp, Arles, Aruba, Belize, Bologna, Bonaire, Bombay, Bordeaux, Branson, Bristol, Cannes, Caracas, Cortina, Curacao, Florida Keys, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Ghent, Guadeloupe, Guanajuato, Halifax, Ibiza, Innsbruck, Jamaica, Jerusalem, Key West, Malaga, Manila, Melbourne, Memphis, Minneapolis-St Paul, Montevideo, Naples, Nashville, Palermo, Palma de Mallorca, Palm Beach, Philadelphia, Positano, Prince Edward Sound, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Salzburg, St Barts, St Kitts and Nevis, Tahiti, Trieste, Trinidad and Tobago, Vail, Valencia, Verona, and Zermatt.
On my/our list to visit are: Amalfi, Branson, Halifax, Nashville, Philadelphia, and Salzburg. Not on the list that I would like to visit are: Antarctica; cruise through Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Serbia, and Bulgaria; a return to Costa Rica; a independent trip to Europe; and Southern Italy.

Ahhh, you're such a good sport! And the king, I think, of the travelers here. Anyway, seems like a good sweep of the Caribbean would take care of a bunch of those!

I'm not one for going to places just to tick them off my list. I don't have such a list. I usually go to places that have interested or fascinated me for some time. Or I go to visit friends (in places that have interested or fascinated me!). Thus, 8 (or 9) trips to Europe, and another in planning, and none to US so far. The places I go to have to offer something I can't get at home. I guess I also travel for culture rather than landscape.

And, living on this end of the world, each trip is a 24 or more hour nightmare to start. It's not an easy jump to anywhere (apart from New Zealand) from here.

I've travelled a lot, and there are places that I still want to get to(Petra is one!), but I like to savour special places.
