Would anyone like to host a small stuffed squirrel?

Roger,

so, what are the chances of getting though on the roads, then, whenever THEN is? and your work time? (thinking, in the other direction, from ABQ to Farmington, one day mail, split between abq'ers, maybe Fed Ex or UPS). Your driving Rocky in this direction would be more fun, of course.

Or, you could gamble, and if not be able to make the drive for snow or work reasons, then have to pay for a one day shipping thing.

Hmmm.

Let me guess, though, that the mail lands in ABQ in the first place.

Would Rocky have time to visit Seattle? I could take him to see the Space Needle or the SS Lincoln if it is in port. If he doesn't have time to come here I'd be happy to send a postcard to the classroom.

Dys (waves) and Roger and I are talking about how to make the time here for Rocky short and sweet.

I dunno about Seattle (me, I like Seattle) - there seems to be a line for destinations.

I have an idea this present mailing will end up a practice run for international domination and an end to war, to leave time for satin and silk on squirrels.

Not at all sure I can get time off from work to drive a stuffed squirrel around, so if it gets here Monday or Tuesday, I'll mail it. Otherwise, I can probably drive it down qucker.

Yay!!

Can you post more pics, dadpad?

By the way, Roger, I don't think you have to worry about rushing Rocky anywhere. I budgeted a week per person with three weeks' buffer, and what we worried would be the longest leg (Columbus --> Australia) has come in under a week.

The package anyway -- did the card come yet, dadpad? (Separately, yes, there was a mishap when I was trying various envelopes for Rocky, the card was left in the barely-too-small one, figured that out after I'd already sealed up the nice-and-roomy one.)

soz; no card yet.

Just as a matter of interest I think you sent the package to me "global priority". I have not paid for such attention from here to germany so it will be interesting to see how long it takes.

More pics? Well I emailed them to the school but they arnt really all that exciting more showing the type of country and how dry it is.
tomorrow or sometime I will upload them to photo bucket and then post them.

I sent the kisd emails "from Rocky"
here is a copy of the last one.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi gang, its me Rocky. As you may have guessed from my last email I am in Australia. Woohoo!
I flew in just a few days ago and I was worried they wouldnt let me in cause their customs people were worried I might have a disease like rabies or something. Can you imagine that? me having Rabies? pfft, silly customs people. Anyway they explained that Australia doesnt have lots of the diseases that there are in other countries so they have to check everyone and everything that comes in to the country really carefully for that kind of thing. So If you come to Australia make sure you dont bring in any plant or animal products just in case.

Ok so I go to this place Mansfield to meet my new friends Blinky Bill and his mum and little sister, Theres a photo of them attached to this email as well as Murray the platypus.
Mansfield Is located In the North east of Victoria Its about half way between Melbourne And Albury but a bit to the east maybe you can find it on a map.
http://mapconnect.ga.gov.au/ hope that works ok you might need to agree with the terms and conitions. <shrug> then zoom in a fair bit.

Now, this town has about 2000 people living in it, there are about 6000 people living in the district that the town services. There is a major ski resort on a mountain nearby but there isnt any snow at the moment cause its summer in Australia. ha ha you guys are having winter and its all cold and stuff over there and here its hot and I can go swimming and get a suntan and stuff.
The area is mostly a farming community with sheep and cattle and some cropping, but tourism plays a big part in the local economy. You can go camping and fishing and horse riding in the bush. except not at the moment, cause they have some really bad bushfires.
Heres a link to learn more about Mansfield
http://www.mansfield.vic.gov.au/

Hey do you know what? My friend Blinky Bill says he knows Bindi Irwrin!!!!!!!! How cool is that?!!!!!!!

A famous bushranger (Thats like Billy the Kid) used to hang out in the forests here in the olden days and he shot some policemen, then there was a big shootout, and he was captured and all that kinda stuff. His name was Ned Kelly and he used to wear armour and a big steel helmut.
Heres a link to a picture of Ned kelly's armour. maybe you can find some more pictures.
http://www.pr.mq.edu.au/macnews/june01/images/ned.jpg
Anyway there are some photos attatched which show the memorial to the policemen that were shot and killed.

So then me and Blinky Bill went for a tour around and I took some photos af the countryside. It sure is dry here, there is a big drought and the grass is all brown. The people I am staying with arnt allowes to water their gardens or wash their cars cause there isnt enough water. Some people who live on farms only have tank water which is collected when it rains, and runs off the roof of their house into their tank. Any how they have to buy water and get big trucks to fill up their tanks cause it hasn't rained properly for a long time.

Any how i have to go and do squirrel stuff now I'm gonna teach blinky bill to collect acorns (except I dont think they have acorns here).

I wonder where I will be next time you hear from me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm kinda hoping the teacher will email some questions from the kids.

That's so cool! Nice job, lots of actual info but amidst a bunch of fun stuff.

It was "global priority," yes, which actually was one of the cheaper options even though it sounds high-falutin'. (Correction, THE cheapest option.)

Some of the photos I sent just to show the kids what the countryside looks like and what small town Australia looks like. My house cause I imagine that is a little different to where they live.

One of the strike teams (fire) at the staging area, cause everyone likes firetrucks.

As I said not the most exciting photos but i've learned from when my daughter was overseas that its the mundane differences like the smell of the air and differences in leaf shapes that really interest people. stuff that I dont necessarily pay attention to every day.

OK now that's an offer that's hard to refuse.

Maybe you can be the first stop on sozlet's stuffed skunk tour? (The skunk seems to be the best qualified of her stuffed animals -- small, personable, intrepid. A couple of rabbits are fighting for position, we'll see.)

To recap:

The squirrel is on behalf of a kid my mom knows. But there is a deadline, and there has been so much interest that I want to do a part II with one of sozlet's stuffed animals, and then for her to keep the completed project (photos, stories, etc.) at the end.

When Rocky has made his way back here I'll post a list of everyone who has expressed interest in the Rocky tour but didn't have a chance, and ask if they want to be part of the skunk tour. Then start that, at a more leisurely pace.

Un. . . . You know, I don't like the way he said that. I wouldn't send the skunk his way, either, come to think of it.

Great job, dadpad. I'm so anxious for Rocky's next stop now. Photo's, copy of e-mails, learning more about A2Ker environments.

Hmm, I'm thinking Gracie would get along just fine with a skunk.

My stuffed squirrel - next stop - already fall in love with Rocky.

I think, if I'll leave them for some time alone ... ...

The skunk will ned a passport soz.
By all means send the skunk here, If there's is less time pressure maybe He/she can do a bit more of a tour of the country. plenty of contacts around theis sunburnt country, but I dont want to monopolise and not give others a chance.

Alternativly we are well connected within the student exchange community so if you wanted to, I could send him on to within that community then you will be really surprised where he turns up. Brazil? Sweden? Russia? Lithuania? Could be anywhere!
