OK, getting slightly off topic here-Have you seen the Freemont Summer Solstice Parade? Or should I ask"Have you ever riden your bike through the Freemont Summer Solstice Parade?"
I remember being vaguely aware of it, but I tend to avoid mobs of people -- so I was more likely to be off drinking in Wallingford or something.
What I didn't realize when I took my kids to the parade one year was that there is a group of men who traditionally ride their bikes through wearing only their helmets
Interesting combo with your quote there, Martybarker... ;-)
So, is Rocky on the way back here? Did you get my address OK? (The goal was to have him by the 6th -- Friday -- and then I'll send him back to MN.)
I promise to get him in the mail tomorrow. Worked late today but will go to the post office on my break.
Sound good. :-)
Loving the pictures.
Rocky is officially on his way back to Ohio! I loved reading the diary entries from the others.
I liked reading about Rocky's trip and seeing all the photos!
Can't wait for the next lucky traveler!
It also has become popular to steal little garden gnomes and take
them around the world while sending postcards and pictures to the
owner.
Quote:Barbara Austin of Greensboro, N.C., had never thought about gnome-nappers until one of her three gnomes disappeared in August 2002. When she came home to find his spot empty, she saw a note inside a plastic bag. It read: "Gone travelin'. Back later."
The gnome would return, but not before Ms. Austin received several packets of photographs from "Gnome." Nearly 50 days later, she woke up and spotted balloons in her front yard. Outside stood the gnome with a photo album and a map detailing his trek. He had had traveled 11,016 miles, to 28 states, Canada, and Mexico with four men and one woman. The snapshots showed him at national landmarks and baseball parks, in cars and airports, with pets he befriended, and next to yard art he encountered.

The squirrel has landed!!
Thanks, everyone, for all of your hard work, creativity, and generosity! It was great fun to go through the whole package, see everyone's photos, extras, and handwriting. (Ul, you have such schoolteacher writing! Very neat and legible, even when tiny!)
I'll send him back to MN tomorrow, and then get Penny the hamster ready for her Grand Adventure.
You guys are the best! :-D
Oh, what was the green thread necklace? Rocky came with the kangaroo pin and a seashell, but those were the only non-paper items. (No denim pouch either -- anyone know where that ended up? By far the least important item tho, no worries.)
The green thread had a tag. I saw it and then I didn't see it. Cough...
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Rocky's adventures and seeing all the photos. Looking forward to more of the same from Penny the hamster.
My sticker got lost already very early
Soz, I'm afraid that due to my visa quandary, I'm not going to India. I'm still hopefully going to Netherlands in July, but that's it... just so'z you know. It sucks royally, but not much I can do about that.
schoolteacher writing!
If Penny wants to come to Vienna he is very welcome. I will be in the States and Mexico in July/August.
Walter, I am sorry that glue didn't do the trick. It was a nice little shiny sticker.
Thanks for asking...
I made sure he was delivered by the 12th, and specified that the package be left at my mom's house since I knew she'd be at work -- they didn't leave the package. With this and that she didn't pick him up until Saturday the 14th. I thought the whole thing was due the 13th. She said it was due the 15th and that everything arrived in plenty of time. The 15th is a Sunday. I don't get it, but all seems well.
She asked me if she could send me a thank-you note that I could forward to everyone, I said sure, that hasn't happened yet. She was super-impressed, though.
Thanks again, everyone!
I'll get Penny started soon -- I'm in the middle of a VERY busy week, probably next Monday or so.
Got a thank-you card in the mail today from Rocky's kid!
Dear [soz],
Thank you for sending my Rocky all around the world. The Journal is amazing! [BIG exclamation mark!] My class also received lots of emails from the people who had Rocky. Thanks again for all you did.
Awww...
