Can you provide a link to this in a conventional news service?

Brandon's favorite strategy is sending people of on tangents. If you make a statement, he asks for a link. If you provide a link, he asks for another link. Of course he could simple google the topic and find all the information within 5 seconds, and could subsequently adress the topic.

But that would be too easy, wouldn't it?

(Here's a link for an article about the ad in The New York Sun. Is that conventional enough?)

You are incorrect when you say that asking people for citations for their claims constitutes sending them off on tangents. In fact, it's the opposite. I could, of course, do research on other peoples' claims, but it's their responsibility to support their own opinions, not mine. Like most of the A2K liberals, you immediately divert the argument to a discussion of the posters.

Sort of funny. You... complaining of racism. You don't mind racism as long as the victim is somebody you don't like.

Try to stay focused, Lash - I know its hard for you when you're trying to communicate with those you don't like, like me. The thread was decrying a race-baiting ad by the republicans. I agreed, and said your post about rappers was a tangent. Just as your trying to make this about me is a tangent. I understand, but its still a tangent

The main reason I don't like you is your proclivity to use racism to denigrate people you don't like and whine about when it suits you. Tarbaby, anyone?

I admit it. I despise it.

This thread is important, imo. Just not for the reasons you seem to think.

I AM quite focused on the issues surrounding the thread topic. You want to skip over the parts you don't like for a chance to complain about someone else's ( a Republican's) misguided racial pandering.

The ad is mild compared to your own racial insults and the underlying cultural truth it piggybacks.

Lash, are you claiming that using offensive language is acceptable? It is justified because a subculture uses it?

Would it be OK for the ad to have used "nigga" because Nelly, 50 Cent, Snoop Dog, et al. use it in their music?

I have not seen that you condemn the ad. Only defend the offensive language. That speaks volumes about you, whether you wish to believe it or not.

Then again, perhaps the accusation of racism has merit. The use of a racial epithet to show contempt is particularly ugly.

DD--I can't imagine how in hell you could possibly get that from my words.

I haven't defended it in the least.

None of them should use it.

I have not seen that you condemn the ad.

Then you've only seen what you wanted to see.

There's no way you could twist my words to support the mysogynistic ravings of rappers or the misguided attempt to appeal to that demographic. You've just made **** up and attributed it to me. Bored this morning?

"Tarbaby" refers to snood's defense of the use of the word tarbaby when dlowan uses it liberally--and rails against Republicans' use of the same word--when it doesn't even reference a person.

I see you are cut from the same cloth.

Then snood should be ashamed, as he does it all the time.

Perhaps you could correct my misapprehension by pointing out where you have condemned the ad.

BTW, can you show me where you condemned snood's racist comments? What he said was as bad as the ad.

In response to a question: did the ad bother me if Republicans sanctioned it--

"I think exploiting problems in other cultures for political gain is usually a big no-no."

I agree.
"I say 'other cultures' because the black representation amongst the GOP is right at 0% at the moment."

0%-- or the usual 5% or so-- is quite dismal and I am very unhappy about it.

If the GOP had agreed to this, there would be NO justification, imo. They really suck with the homies.[/i]

In case anyone is at a loss to fathom what Lash is on about, let me try to provide some background.

Basically her "thing" with me is that I call black conservatives "hanky-heads", and that I took sarcastic exception to the casual use of the word "tarbaby", when Lash started a thread asking people's opinions about it.

I don't mind Lash being so perpetually up in arms about what she sees as my wrongheadedness about race. She is entitled to her opinion about me (that keeps snaking its way into any discussion about race).

If anything really bothers me, it's that Lash's characterization of me and how I feel about racial matters does me an injustice - the matter of race in America is very layered and deep, and I think a hell of a lot more about these matters than can be tossed off in a couple of casual insults.

If anyone is interested in what I think about race beyond the fact that I call black conservatives "hanky-heads", and that I would resist the casual use of the word "tarbaby" in everyday language no matter what its context (and I totally understand if you're not interested- its okay), you can read some of what I think

That's if you're interested in what I think.

Or, you can just think of me as someone who calls black conservatives hanky-heads, and doesn't like the word tarbaby used in casual everyday conversation.

Or, You can be simultaneously obsessive and clueless like Lash,

Or you can not think of me at all, and just address the topic of this thread (wotta concept!).

Personally, I'd like it better, and I think things would make a whole lot more sense, if we all did the latter...

Based on your other comments, it appeared to me that the "idiocy" was in pursuing an unsuccessful strategy, not in producing an offensive or racist ad.

Yeah...
it's not quite a moot point, because their "Southern Strategy" is still lowdown and will continue to be used.

But it didn't work, and that's what's important regarding this thread - no matter what anyone keeps ranting about.

Unfortunately, the anti-gay ads were quite successful last time.

I hope future appeals aren't so stupid....and won't appeal to hatred.

The Southern Strategy-- so they say--is supposed to attract white voters to the GOP by distancing from blacks... These strategies are attempting to attract blacks.
