I have bad news for AM. The US claims over 80 percent of christians, but is one of the most crime riddled country in the "civilized" world. AM and her ilk are failing miserably.

Onward christian sol-o-diers, marching off to war...

Not to go too far off topic.... but, does that mean that it is mostly Christians who have all the guns?

Arella Mae, if you get all upset and angry over someone else's language, how they say what they say, why don't you look at yourself. Ask yourself, why am I poking my nose into how someone else speaks? Then, why don't you just say what you must say the way you want to say it. Be an example, for Pete's sake!
You sound as a goody-two-shoes, and you are the one pointing fingers.

BECAUSE THEY ARE SPEAKING TO ME?

Uh, excuse me, but why are you commenting on this if this is the way you feel? I find it rather hypocritical. Why can't you just let ME say what I am saying the way I want to say it? Idea

And your point, Echi? Did I ever say this was anyone's understanding other than mine?

Oh, so you don't understand Thou shalt not kill? Echi, the Bible will tell you, and I'll get the scripture for you, that if you believe something is a sin (even if it's not a sin in God's eyes) then you commited a sin. Now, there are things in the Bible that are as simple as thou shalt not kill and then there are things in the Bible such as in the instance of gambling that you have to read and study it to gain an understanding. So if I believe that God says gambling is wrong, then it is wrong for me to engage in it or condone it in any way. Understand?

This one's my favorite:

"If I believe the Bible is the God-breathed and God-inspired inerrant Word of God, why would I ever disagree with a single thing it says?"

What does "Thou shalt not kill" mean, exactly?

I don't think that it is necessarily gambling that is wrong. It may be the fallout from it that is wrong.

Just as a gun by itself is not wrongt. Put it into the hands of someone bent on killing and it is very effective weapon.

echi- That is very interesting question. According to the bible it is wrong to kill someone, but it is ok for the god of the New Testament to condemn people to eternal hell, simply for not believing in him. Does not seem quite equitable, does it?

You aren't going to tell me that's not a logical conclusion, are you?

IF God is the ultimate authority then why would I think I would know better?

Why do you think you know better than the written Word of God?

And, how do you interpret "Thou Shalt Not Kill"?

Uh, I don't think I know better than the written Word of God. If it is not written like "thou shalt not kill" such as it is in the case of gambling, if MY UNDERSTANDING of it is that it is a sin, then it is a sin for me to engage in it or to condone it.

You don't go around killing people. You don't WITH INTENT kill people. Oh, and please, don't even bring the war into this, Echi. I will not discuss that aspect of this at all. And the reason has nothing to do with the Bible or my religious views. I hope you understand.

I don't know about that. I'm interested to see your information.

Regardless, how is your "understanding" any different from your "interpretation"?

Is that your own "understanding"?
