How's this for irony?

Reading the post from which the above was taken, I felt the exact same thing.

i have no doubt that religious certainty inevitably leads to religious fanaticism (of some if not of all) and i have no doubt that religious fanaticisim is dangerous. I also have no doubt about the existence of deities--none exist.

With that definition of fanaticism, I would disagree vociferously with the first use of the word, and agree with the second.

I have no problem with fanatics..........as far as I am concerned, people can play with poisonous snakes, roll all over the floor, or speak in gobbledygook if that's what turns them on.

My problem is with those people who believe that it's "my way or the highway", or who attempt to superimpose their ideas on other people. IMO, when those people are in positions of power, they are particularly dangerous.

Far those you believe that all one needs to be saved is to accept Christ, does this mean that they also must accept his ways and teaching.

Christ was really just the messenger....God's ways might be a better definition.

Was that a question, Ibredd?

Please note the punctuation mark at the end of my last sentence. You do your point of view no favor by the poor quality of your writing.

Did you know that God said in Isaiah 40:22 that our planet was circular and not flat? Pretty big battles over the earht being flat over time!
ISA 40:22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth

I am sick to death of that verse being quoted to "prove" the scientific accuarcy &/or divine revelation of the Bible. The Bible also teaches that the Earth is not moving and & that the sun revolves around the earth. To illustrate..
  • Then spake Joshua.... Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon, and thou moon, in the valley of Ajalon. And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies... So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. (Joshua 10:12,13)
  • The sun AND the moon stood still in their habitation. (Habakkuk 3:11)
  • ...the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved. (I Chron. 16:30)
  • The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hastens to his place where he arose. (Eccl.1:5)
  • Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees ...ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down. (Isaiah 38:8)
  • [God] commandeth the sun, and it riseth not (Job 9:7)
  • The heavens declare the glory of God.... In them hath He set a tabernacle for the sun, which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof. (Psalm 19:1,4-6)
In the Catholic Bible's Apocrypha you can also find the following:
  • ...great is the earth, high is the heaven, swift is the sun in his course, for he compasseth the heavens round about and fetcheth his course again to his own place in one day. (I Esdras 4:34)

One may argue that God really meant that the earth and not the sun is moving in all these Scriptures, that he just used a language of appearance or something. This method of handling scripture says that God has lied to us or is so inept with words that he couldn't communicate a simple truth about whether it is the earth that goes around the sun or the sun that goes around the earth. The Bible is simply a horrible science book.

The Bible is pretty clear in that simple belief in Jesus is all that is needed to be "saved".

Other teachings that say suicide renders the salvation invalid are not supported by the scriptures.

Murder and other sins are also not supposed to affect this. A clear example is of Jesus telling the muderer on the cross that he will go to heaven.
