A man sitting in his pickup truck in the parking lot of his Little Rock, Ark., church
acted quickly when a woman pursued by a robber entered the truck.
When the robber tried to steal the truck, the man, who was a member of
the choir at the church, retrieved a gun and fired a shot
that killed the assailant. (WREG.com, Memphis, Tenn., 9/14/06)
GOOD SHOOTING !
He shud be awarded a gold medal ( a big, heavy, pure one )
and a year 's tax credit for valuable services
contributed to his community, in putting a
permanent end to that danger.
David
You 'n Charles Bronson, David.
That 's the nicest thing u 've said
to me in a long time, Ed.
I thought the " Death Wish " movies
were very cleverly done.
David
They are a cry for ending due process of law.
I am 100% confident
that the Founders of the Constitution
wud eagerly applaud the hero 's
excellent dispatching of the bad guy.
( Remember that thay had no police
[nor did the English]; thay deemed police
too dangerous, refering to them as
" a standing army ". ) Hence,
just as every citizen was expected
to see to his own warm clothing in winter,
so also he was expected to naturally
attend to his own defense if attacked
by a criminal, Indians, or predatory animals.
The Founders wud have LOVED Charles Bronson.
He exemplified the American Spirit.
In other words,
the criminal got his due process of law
when he got shot in self defense
or in defense of property.
A letter survives Thomas Jefferson,
the founder of the University of Virginia,
our 3rd President, and the author of
the Declaration of Independence,
wherein Jefferson counsels his 12 year old nephew
to always take his gun with him when he walks.
He advocates practice in proficiency of firearms use,
over and above ball games.
In order for the criminal to avoid
this due process of law,
all he had to do was NOT try to rob anyone.
It was his choice.
David
How did he know that the man wasn't her husband and that they were just having an argument? Couldn't he just have warned the man with his gun? Too many "other" options open here, apart from killing the man.
That seems a rather extreme reaction - did the robber have a gun?
How did the robber 'try to steal the truck'? If it was locked, it couldn't be stolen, so why shoot him?
Why not shoot to maim or stop instead of kill?
David, you're just trying to get everyone riled up here, aren't you? We call that 'snit-jiggin' in my family

Good, now he can sing at the choir in jail. One idiot less on the streets.
When are you going to shoot someone? Someone with your frame of mind ought to be off the roads as well.
I'm glad David doesn't live anywhere near my neighborhood.

thanks to his fine service

probably never,
unless it becomes necessary

My frame of mind
is that of the Founders.
America rightfully belongs to US, not to U.
David
You are not too bright for a mensa member, David. Calamity Jane IS part of the US that you are referring to.
Unless, of course, you consider yourself part of some elite group that does not include all American citizens.

ON re-examination of your post,
I observe that u seem to be under the misapprehension
that the hero was incarcerated; is there evidence of THAT ??
Killing a robber is a fine and admirable thing
for any American citizen to do.
By analogy:
if I said that a man saved a desperate woman
from fire, by extinguishing it with his fire extinguisher,
wud u ask me:
" When r u going to put out a fire ? "
I see no reason to lite a fire,
just to use my extinguisher.
We all have reason to take delight
in our hero 's having extinguished the robber.
We r all safer for it.
David
But he didn't need to be extinguished. You didn't answer my questions above. Could you?

YES.
The ELITE group is those of us who adhere to the vu
of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson,
Ben Franklin, James Madison, and Patrick Henry;
this does NOT include liberals who have deviated
from the Founders' philosophy of individualism n libertarianism.
That is the ELITE group to whom America rightfully belongs,
and that is the point that I was making.
I will restrain myself from comment
upon YOUR intelligence.
David
Makes me glad that I am not an American. Your restraint is admirable given that it is an unusual occurance.
