Every war destroys unfortunately the historical heritage of a country as well. That happened in Lebanon, too.
Quote:Monuments in two of the world's most important heritage sites are in need of 'urgent repair' as a result of the recent conflict in Lebanon, a United Nations mission to the region has discovered. A Roman tomb in Tyre and a medieval tower in Byblos have been significantly damaged by the war.
Bombs shatter Lebanon's Roman legacy
That's awful.
Byblos is probably the oldest continually occupied city in the world and is claimed to be the birthplace of the modern alphabet. Ironically, there's a Crusader castle there which is partly constructed with old Roman columns.
Tyre has a nearly intact Roman Hippodrome; it was used in 1959 during the filming of "Ben Hur."
