Swedish researchers say oral sex increases the chance of getting cancer in the tonsils.
During the past 30 years the number of cancers in the throat and head have tripled in the Stockholm region, despite a decrease in smoking, without an obvious explanation. Now researchers at Stockholm's Karolinska Institute say it's because of changing sexual habits.
The scientists studied tissue samples from 237 cases of cancer diagnosed since the 1970's. They found an increase in a virus associated with uteral cancer. Their work is being published in a coming issue of the "International Journal of Cancer".
