I think that Arsenal are going to gobble up some Hamburgers tonight.

(prediction - Gooners 3 - 1 Hamburgers)

I hope so. (They are no Icelanders yet, aren't they?)

Something different.

I suggest that The Prince moves to some other place!

Er...we don't always wear kilts.

Wet pitch, cold, blustery weather, not very friendly and somewhat vocal crowd....I've got a feeling Trafford United are up against it tonight.

3 - 1 as predicted.

That Walcott's a little greyhound. I reckon if he keeps this up, he'll be one of the best English players we've had for yonks.

(My lips are sealed about the other game)

Football? Far too busy discussing with another Manc...Fresco who just wrote

Fresco wrote:
My argument above which deconstructs lay concepts of "objectivity" equally applies to "subjectivity". It is based on "reality as a social construct" in which all "things" including "selves" and "gods" are nodes within an interactional network isomorphic to "semantics". What we call "science" represents an attempt at development of a universal semantic field in the face of the oersistence of our parochial and local limitations bounded by our particular physiological and social needs. The "transcendent position" is the vantage point from which this makes "sense".

Fresco doesnt participate too much on this thread...

I say, if it doesn't make sense, then it's poor English.

The brightest people can get their message across in straighforward language.

Terry and Guys,

Thankyou for your kind comments. There is a fine line between pomposity and ability and I am not always certain which side I fall.

I think the social chat is important but this may not be the ideal forum for it. Perhaps "The British Thread" should function as an compendium of "British views" comprehensible to "the others" rather than an impenetrable collection of mutual revelry in all things British from Alex Ferguson's chewing gum to ASBO's. After all, do we not have a duty of care to our former colonials and even less fortunate foreigners to "put them straight" ? (....cries of "Hear, hear" and "Forward with leather" hopefully resonate ....)

Had a pleasant lunch today, with a charming companion. It was Smorgs.

And, it was bangers and mash.

I'd preferred baked beans - in that case you know what's in it.
