I know I can google all this, but I'd like to hear from folks on a2k, about how to temper barking. Now that I have the fifth nearby house with a dog barking, I have one reactive corgi on my hands.
I admit he isn't as highly trained as some previous doggies of mine. He was old and I was older and distracted when I got him, so I didn't suddenly enroll him in late dog life obedience training. He's not bad at obedience, just a tad slow. But, he was born to protect the herd - which right now is ME - from the surrounding wolves.
Any helpful hints?
Seems like Squinney had some advice a year or so ago - not sure. I know I can't help. I've seen them when sirens go by. They sit down, slowly raise their heads, and begin a truely mournful howl. I don't know of a thing that will stop them.
We've been having heart to heart NO talks this evening, while puppy is wimpering or wee barking next door, and the German Shepherd takes up the roundel... and then the poodle. As long as I am right by him, I can stop it. But his instinct for the bark is very strong.
I'll look up Squinney's thread, thanks, Roger.
Actually, this brings up why I used to really like the neighbor's guard duck.
It only quacked at humans in the alley.
