re shades, my best are these small things that you just sort of throw in front of your glasses, I got them at my eye doc's. Cheapo throwaways, but they work for me. I just need more pair of them.
Drove back from mid city to the west side a few days ago after a get together... with my left hand over my brow for the length of Montgomery/Montano.
I might have done that - zipping into the sun - before I knew all this about my eyes, driving into blinding sun is similar for most. I'm just incrementally more careful than other folk.
It's true, when I'm confident, and when I'm confident it is reasonable, I still go fast - I might have averaged near 90 daylight from California to New Mexico, but that was mostly interstate. Just that I tune my confidence more closely than most, re light and dark.
