before a witness pulled a gun and stopped him, police said.

The 21-year-old suspect, whose name was withheld pending charges,
was arrested and then taken to a hospital after complaining of chest pains,
Memphis Police Sgt. Vince Higgins said. The attack apparently stemmed
from a work dispute, police said.

Five victims, one in critical condition, were admitted to the Regional Medical Center,
the main trauma hospital for the Memphis area. Three others were less badly hurt
and treated at another hospital.

The attacker, chasing one victim into the store's parking lot, was subdued by Chris Cope,
manager of a financial services office in the same small shopping center, Higgins said.

Cope said he grabbed a 9mm semiautomatic pistol from his pickup truck
when he saw the attacker chasing the victim "like something in a serial killer movie."

"When he turned around and saw my pistol, he threw the knife away,
put his hands up and got on the ground," Cope told The Associated Press.
"He saw my gun and that was pretty much it." [ emphasis added by David ]

Well, Bear, I must say that
government has not been given jurisdiction
to distribute free guns
any more than it was given jurisdiction to give away free money.

I suggest a return to the status quo ante,
that prevailed up to the early 1900s,
in which everyone provided his own gun for himself.

How 's that ?

Why not just go completely to the status quo of the early 1900's and have your guns. Have no workers benefits. Have no adequate food inspection. etc. etc. Why just pick and choose from an era?

OK, but let 's not delude ourselves
that government has any influence in
how criminals will choose to arm themselves.

" The Wild, Wild, West " was a fony, fony myth
perpetrated by half-starving Eastern authors of what
thay used to call " dime novels " who reasoned
that thay 'd sell more books if thay made something INTERESTING happen
once in a while, instead of a lot of quiet, peaceful life;
( e.g., the myth that Ned Buntline gave Wyatt Earp and his friends
long barrelled revolvers [ " Buntline Specials " ]; thay never met, nor did Buntline
have any interest in long barrelled revolvers, nor in giving things away ).

On seldom occasions,
there were untoward incidents like the OK Corral.

The Universe is a violent place,
including this planet.
Occasionally, someone runs berserk.
That 's life.

Well, the Supreme Law of the Land ( the Bill of Rights )
remains the same now, as it was then, until it is amended.

Is it part of American history that there was a lot of food poisoning
going around, from the absence of an FDA ?
Hospitals doing a brisk business in stomach pumping ?
I ' m not AWARE of that.

No, they just died. Compare the life expectancy in those days with that of today.

U have evidence
that their causes of death were food poisoning ?
