sozobe :
are you sure it's a "cold" and not an allergy ? - ragweed and other weeds are going into full production early this year a/t our weather office .
while nose rinse is still one of my stand-byes - those little bottles from the drugstore just won't cut it ; remember we had a thread on the home-made solution.
i also use "tavist" (clemastine) on a daily basis right now . it's a rather old antihistamine , but seems to be the only one that works for me - ehbeth inherited both allergy and tavist from me
.
i've tried all other kinds of antihistamines , but none work for me .
i also find that it has no side-effects for me - no drowsyness , dryness etc . walmart is one of the few stores that still stocks it - about $4 for a 16 pack of their store brand - the brand name is about double the price and no different .
my physician and the pharmacists are trying to get me to use all other kinds of antihistamines - 'the more modern - and more expensive ! - kind ; but when i tell them that they don't work , they tell me to try a different kind - i'm not very happy with that approach . hope to get an appointment with allergy specialist this fall - she's on maternity leave
.

...CLEMASTINE...
...NASAL RINSE...
ps. i make my own rinse solution - approved by our clinic at the general hospital .
"plain salt" - i use pickling salt , since it contains no iodine or other additives - ,
a pinch of bicarbonate of soda - to reduce 'stinging' ,
destilled or filtered water - we use a britta filter for all water we drink .
i usually make up a cupfull with a quarter teaspoon of salt and a pinch of bicarb - adjust to taste , as they say and thouroughly rinse nose several times a day .
here's to easier breathing !
