Yes, I think that's why I'm resistant to the dryer-uppers. I still have about 5 days, will give it a bit more time I think...

I'm actually feeling just fine -- if it wasn't for the 8-people-sleeping-in-one-room aspect this would be barely a blip. It's very, very minor, I just wanna get rid of the snoring part!!!

Bella, I haven't figured out the working out part either -- I did twice since I got sick, and come to think of it (duh, but just put it together) I was worse the next day each time. I'm on my last week of my 10-week thing and would hate to put off that closure for another week, but maybe I should take it easy.

Pooh.

How do you know you're snoring, soz? Has sozlet made some insensitive remark about mommy sounding like a passing truck?

Or did EJ, staring at you over his glass of orange juice at the breakfast table, say something like, "Hey, baby, you better get that damn snorin' in check or I'm gonna have to give you a good backhand."

I can't add any suggestions that would be more useful than those you've already received, soz. Just commiserating (sniff, honk!) & hoping you feel better soon.

Both.

E.G. (he's an evil genius, not an evil... journalist?) and I have a system, since it's come up before. If I get a cold, I prepare the couch. Then I try to go ahead and go to sleep, and if I snore, he wakes me up and I go to the couch. He gets all guilty and tries to tell me I don't have to when I'm at the preparing the couch stage, but it's a comfy couch and I infinitely prefer that to him being all grumpy the next morning and informing me that I was snoring after the fact.

Sozlet will tell me that I'm snoring if I ask, but she insists she likes it -- "It's like a cat purring," or "It's like a lullaby." Sweetie.

Thanks, msolga. Are you sick, too?

Really, I wish that all colds were this lightweight, I don't want to incur sympathy I don't deserve for the cold itself, it's the spectre of my entire extended family covering their ears and blearily glaring at me... oy....

Thanks for asking. I've had a whopper already this winter, soz & haven't really felt 100% wonderful since ... always feeling like I'm just about to cop round 2. Flu is all over the place here & just waiting to strike the vulnerable & wobbly! Shocked

It started on Abuzz, I think, lots of people now think it's his initials.

Littlek, I haven't done the neti pot but I do saline solution (I have recipe I use with sozlet) and bulb syringe, same idea. Have done that, will do it more. I think it's probably the single best way to get things moving.

I also think the exercise --> feeling worse the next day thing should probably be paid attention to. Didn't go to the gym today (did yesterday), will see how I feel tomorrow.

Oh, I'm sorry, msolga. I hate it when that happens. We're getting awfully close to fall, so your spring must be coming soon enough. I am not in the mood to give up summer at the moment. Have another month or so anyway.

Does the saline thing you do go from one nostril and run through the nasal passage to exit the other nostril? I used to use saline sprays, but they weren't enough. The flow of saline solution makes a big difference for me.

It flows, but it's more like if very stuffy, it just loosens things and allows more productive nose-blowing; if only minorly stuffy (like I am now), it flows from nostril to throat (then spit it out). It's definitely not a spray, it's a flow. I haven't been able to make it go from one nostril to the other, though. Maybe I'll buy one of the darn things (neti pot).

Not to worry, soz. It comes with the work territory, I'm afraid. Steer clear of schools if you want to avoid the flu! ... best advice I can give anyone who wishes to remain a cold-free zone.

And could you let us know which remedies you've found the most useful, please?

Nobel Prize wouldn't get near it, Soz.

I am in awe.

sozobe :
are you sure it's a "cold" and not an allergy ? - ragweed and other weeds are going into full production early this year a/t our weather office .
while nose rinse is still one of my stand-byes - those little bottles from the drugstore just won't cut it ; remember we had a thread on the home-made solution.
i also use "tavist" (clemastine) on a daily basis right now . it's a rather old antihistamine , but seems to be the only one that works for me - ehbeth inherited both allergy and tavist from me Crying or Very sad .
i've tried all other kinds of antihistamines , but none work for me .
i also find that it has no side-effects for me - no drowsyness , dryness etc . walmart is one of the few stores that still stocks it - about $4 for a 16 pack of their store brand - the brand name is about double the price and no different .
my physician and the pharmacists are trying to get me to use all other kinds of antihistamines - 'the more modern - and more expensive ! - kind ; but when i tell them that they don't work , they tell me to try a different kind - i'm not very happy with that approach . hope to get an appointment with allergy specialist this fall - she's on maternity leave Rolling Eyes .
hbg

...CLEMASTINE...

...NASAL RINSE...

ps. i make my own rinse solution - approved by our clinic at the general hospital .
"plain salt" - i use pickling salt , since it contains no iodine or other additives - ,
a pinch of bicarbonate of soda - to reduce 'stinging' ,
destilled or filtered water - we use a britta filter for all water we drink .
i usually make up a cupfull with a quarter teaspoon of salt and a pinch of bicarb - adjust to taste , as they say and thouroughly rinse nose several times a day .
here's to easier breathing !

Yep, that's very close to what I use

Good news is that I'm doing better than yesterday. Bad news is that there is a direct correlation between working out and feeling worse the next day, and not working out and feeling better the next day. Hmph.

soz : good to hear that you are feeling better .
our physician has always advised against streneous exercise - particularly when the body is already stressed , such as through allergy .
we find that our morning swim is really an invigourating exercise ; we keep cool , most muscles get a moderate amount of exercise ; so we do not get tired out .
as we get older (Shocked ) , we find that we don't perform very well when it gets hot . so we go swimming in the morning , take our walks in the evening when it's cooled off and do the housework during the daytime - with the a/c keeping the house a comfortable 25 C Smile - works best for us .
