Help me shake this cold!

I dunno how I got a cold in the middle of the #$%@ summer, but I did. It's a very minor cold. I feel pretty much fine, just a bit stuffy, blowing my nose a bit but not scads. The main result is that, when I have a cold like this, I snore.

The problem is, I'm going to a remote one-room cabin stuffed with 8 people in a matter of days. I CANNOT SNORE THERE!!! Shocked

It started probably three days ago. It got better, then a little worse, then a little better, and now it's a little worse again, so I'm now into the GET RID OF IT!! phase rather than hoping it will resolve itself on its own.

So far I haven't taken any medicine, as for me, it seems to just drag things out. Willing to do so though I think.

I've gone swimming in the pool and can't tell if it helps or not. I swam (head under) for the first time this year before I got the cold. I swam on the first day and that preceded an upturn. I swam yesterday and that preceded a downturn.

I'll make some saline solution soon and squirt the heck out of my nose.

Been having a lot of fruit, and drinking plenty.

Only solution for snoring is getting over the cold, those nose strip things never do anything.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

cant help you but those summertime colds really suck. I always keep taking those Zinc Citrate tablets and I drink lots of rooiboos tea. I think it shortens the cold's effects by a week.

Snoring is part of the fun of group camping. I taped this one woman who swore that she didnt snore. She was quite indignant about our needling her. When confronted with the tapeshe almost cried and I felt like a ax murderer. So, if some one tapes you, just start crying and they will all feel like **** and give you lotsa room thereon.

Glad I could help.

Emergen-C-drinks

I use this when I have a cold.
It is a big dose of vitamin C that you can add to anything you are drinking. It makes your water sort of fizzy that helps soothe a sore throat as well.

When I am sick, I use one 3 times a day and with in 2-3 days I feel better and my nose stopps running so much.

I would say you are dealing with allergies rather than a cold.

Orange juice and/or anadin.

Are your friends so shallow, soz, that they are going to think less of you because of your snoring?

Let's hope not, because you're not going to shake this thing with any sort of "miracle cure". Only time will cure your ailment and by the sounds of it, that is ticking away at an alarming rate.

You're going to snore like a trooper, girl. Deal with it.

Oh god. I don't wanna!!!

It's my husband's family, not friends per se -- MIL, FIL, Brothers-in-law, etc. FIL and Brothers-in-law would be one thing, they'd probably tease me and get over it. MIL, though... oh, god!

Zinc citrate, rooiboos tea, okeedokes.

Never heard of anadin, will look into it.

Am eating fresh fruit like crazy, probably fine in the Vit C department.

Guess what? I have a frickin' cold too.

Runny nose, sneezing, full head/ears...sucks big time.

Cold Eeze works for me. It actually makes me feel better faster. Some people say it does nothing. But I think it does.

Can't hurt to try!

Also, get some Breathe Right Strips for night. They will help you not snore.

That's what I mean by "those nose strip things" in my first post, they've never helped me.

Cold Eeze, willing to try, thanks!

Hope you feel better soon, too.

Nutrition Action says Cold Eezees are ineffective.

Do you have objections to over-the-counter allergy pills?

Not really. Claritin et al, you mean?

I think if I go the medicine route I'll do the Dayquil/ Nyquil thing, of all the stuff I've tried that seems to work best.

I'm also hoping that IF it's allergy related that clear mountain air will clear things right up (fingers crossed very tightly...)

Claritan is now available as a super market generic. I've found the generic to be cheaper in the grocery store than in chain drugstores, but....

Also ask the pharmacist--Sutafed and other hay fever meds that can be converted to meth are behind the Rx counter these days. Pharmacists love being authorative and helpful.

I know that's what a lot of people say but I am telling you, it works for me.

Mind over matter? Don't care. If it works, it works. Smile

Speaking of colds...should you work out when your sick?

If you are physically not lying flat on your back that is.

Should I go and just do an easy workout today? I feel kinda crappy.

Bella--

I have friends who swear by the stuff.

As for working out with the blahs: Do you think you're contageous? If so, don't be generous with the germs.

It's a cold so I'd imagine so.

How long are you contagious with a cold? The entire length of it?

I googled:

Evidently there are two schools of thought, Pamper and Perserve.

Life is full of decisions.

I would strongly recommend against taking dryer uppers until the day before you leave...they really do stop your poor body's natural getting rid of the cold mechanisms.

Zinc and, arguably, echinacea seem to help.....and kyolic garlic seems to be nice to immune systems.

Tried inhaling tea tree oil in steam?

The dryer uppers may help if you are still snoring when you leave.

Nose drops (not imbued with drying stuff) to help clear your poor wee passages? I use something called Fess...which sometimes you can get with tea tree oil, or eucalyptus oil, in it.

Poor baby!!!

Colds SUCK!!!!!!
