Barcelona received the highest number of votes in the poll for a Europe A2K Meeting in 2007. Vienna and London were the runner up cities.
LINK TO EUROPE MEETING POLL HERE
Let's start the planning for Barcelona by choosing a date for the meeting.
Poll will end in 21 days.
I don't know where I'll be in a month, let alone a year!
This week it's UK-Albania-Slovakia-Czech Republic, for example.
Sounds glamorous but is really rather tiring. I'm glad it's not a typical week for me.
KP
Count me out of Barcelona - my plans have been detoured to Italy - with a short trip to London (OK now that KP is based on the other side of Europe!)
I voted for the week in June but, other than Easter week, it doesn't really matter to me. If we gather during the school year, I'll make arrangements for someone to stay here with the girls. If it's during their summer or winter break, we'll bring them with us. The only thing I wouldn't do is travel during a holiday during the school year, such as Easter or Thanksgiving when they only have a three-day weekend.
Weather might matter in choosing a week. Here's a link for annual weather averages
weather
June looks warm and semi-dry, March looks cool and wet.
Here's one for tourist ideas
visiting
There's a music festival in June (11th annual happening this week) so perhaps that isn't the best week to go based on crowds, or perhaps it is the best week to go based on activities
music fest

has to be school holiday times for us.
I voted for the April selection, any time in April being fine with me, holiday not mattering. My least favorite is late June, re the heat.

What! it gets hot in Barcelona?...well no one told me. I want my money back. Or an air conditioned room
I'm with osso on the heat. Walking around when the temp and the humidity are high, leaves me feeling drained (Dry heat really does make a difference). I check J_B's link and it looks like late April and early May are almost like Camelot-like in terms of weather. Easter is a terrible time to travel because of the school holidays. The crowds are awful and the prices tend to be high.
Crowds are a problem for us. New Mexico has only 15 people per square mile. I love to explore and get the feeling of the crowds, but I also start getting claustrophbic in an hour or so. Sorry for being like that, but I can't help it.
Dys actually prefers October and November, for two very good reasons: the weather and, especially, fewer people. We will try to fit in with the schedules of other a2kers, but if it doesn't seem to be firmed up in a month or so, we will go with what makes us most comfortable. Yes, we are blithely taking advantage of being old and retired; in fact, we have become quite hedonistic.
Diane, Nothing wrong with hedonism; I should learn to practice more of it myself.
Hope to see you guys in Barcelona next year. T.
My bias is that I walk and walk and walk on my vacations (as opposed to my daily life, where I mimic a slug). For long walks I prefer less heat, even sort of chilly weather. So November sounds fine to me as well.. Assuming I can get to Barcelona, I'm going to Italy too, and will definitely walk my buns off there, walking, walking, slapping mosquitoes if June...) I made that up, I don't know when mosquitoes show up in Italy or Barcelona.
I'm not in a position to vote as E and I are still discussing which direction to head.
However, Barcelona's on the shortlist so she asked me to check it for rain. Looks like (following J_B's link, or through wunderground) autumn can be pretty moist in Barcelona.
still mulling here on the north shore of Lake Ontario
What about late May/early June?
Are we limited to just the dates listed in the poll? (Why?)

You really need more than this
We are not limited, Eva. I tried to get responses on wording the polls, on other threads, and this and the last poll, the location poll, is what I got to with relatively low input in the wording stages. People generally respond with their circumstances, but not with how to word the polls.
That, in part, is why the poll says Other Date?
The immediate thing against late May early June is that it cuts out folks who want to wait until children are out of school, or their own work schedule re school is past. I didn't get much feedback on when exactly school ends in different places.. It differs..
Other meeting plannings have dealt in different ways re the conflicting needs. The SF meeting, for example, just went for early April, since CI started the idea by saying that's when the meeting was, though it was changed slightly later since he couldn't make it at the first date. At least I think that was what happened.
Many other meetings have been by, "we're doing this then, wanna come?". (This has growing attraction to me.)
The Chicago meeting was worked out by location and votes in the subscribers' thread before it hit the general boards.
After the Chicago meet was such a pleasure, a lot of us were gung ho to do it again next year, with Barcelona being mentioned. Fool, I started a thread on starting a thread, how to word it, gave up and started one with a bunch of options and got mixed (reasonably so) feedback. Quite a few people would enjoy meeting in Barcelona, if we can wrassle ourselves into a time frame. I can see other meets at different dates and places as well, myself.
Last year's London meeting was arranged, since dys, Diane, c.i. wanted to come to Europe that year, they just co-ordinated their dates ... we came to London, when they were there.
The meeting at my place - a week later - thus had a fixed date as well.
The very first meting in London was around c.i.'s stay there, too - the other London meetings were arranged between those who finally really came.
