A continental breakfast is a light breakfast. The term comes from the complimentary breakfast (a meal at no extra charge) provided by hotels in Europe. Usually, there is not much food. A typical continental breakfast would be a croissant and a cup of coffee, perhaps with fruit juice or a small serving of juice.
