how do you raft in a puddle?

Laughing

I have not seen all of the Rio Grande, but I know the 10 mile stretch through Albuquerque rarely gets over 3 feet deep. Unless there is a heavy rain. So it is funny to me, with only having seen THAT piece of it, to imagine anyone doing anything other then wading through the Rio Grande puddle.

Where were you at?

I've seen a couple of stores/agencies offering "rafting and outdoor adventures" during our tour .... and the New Mexico Tourism Department offers such as well .... for this region.
Quote:

24-mile stretch: Above the Taos Box, from just north of the state line to Lee Trail, the Ute Mountain Run will take you through a broad lava-rock plain. The rapids are gentle here and the only downside to this scenic 24-mile stretch is the takeout, which requires you to carry your craft up a steep, unimproved trail.

You weren't in Bald Eagle country, Walter--they prefer riverine homes, with lots of fish if possible. You'd have been more likely to see one in Chicago than in New Mexico or Colorado. Southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, northeast Arkansas and western Kentucky is an area in which the Bald Eagles abound, and where i have commonly seen them. They do best, though, farther north (spending the winters elsewhere when the waters freeze), and in areas with lots of rainfall.

Their common ranges

They might winter anywhere, but the dark blue areas are where you are least likely to find them.

I know actually - would have had more changes to run into a puma, I think.

Some more photos on the way up to the pass, on the "Roof Garden of America". (As an aside: San Luis Valley was a part of New Mexico until 1861.)

dys doesn't like downhill skiing but prefers cross country, so we didn't stop. (This ski area is famous for "The Most Snow in Colorado." )

Wow.

The Hot Air Balloons, beautiful

I didn't realize you could fly them this time of the year out there...obviously because of the desert air, cold at night, warming up in the morning.

Around here, they only go up in the winter.

We get them at my place all over the year - next Wednesday a couple of them are 'baptised' close to our home, and then there's the (in Europe) famous 'Montgolfiade' in a couple of weeks as well.

The are here mostly in the evening in the air - due to working hours, I suppose, since some are up in the morning as well.
