Ok, help me out here... knight and night are homophones as well as homonyms, correct? They are words which sound the same, but are spelled and mean quite different things... So what are words which are spelled the same but pronounced differently and mean different things called?
From
www.m-w.com :
ho·mo·phone
one of two or more words pronounced alike but different in meaning or derivation or spelling (as the words to, too, and two)
hom·onym
one of two or more words spelled and pronounced alike but different in meaning (as the noun quail and the verb quail)
ho·mo·graph
one of two or more words spelled alike but different in meaning or derivation or pronunciation (as the bow of a ship, a bow and arrow)
Thanks! I think I finally get the differences.
