got up late this morning , had late breakfast and didn't have lunch/dinner until 3 pm .
tomatoe/v 8 juice , pork and beef stew (also known as : goulash) ,
potatoe dumplings , peas and carrots and side salad .

i think it's time for me to put the tea-kettle on and put out some 'pizzelle' cookies and chocolate covered 'hearts' (left over from christmas , but still tasty ).

Bought a skirt steak, known to me previously as a culotte steak, at Keller's, bound to be good unless I overcook it. I plan to have a regular old fashioned baked potato, of the mealy type (Idaho, russet), which I usually avoid since I actually like reds and yukons better. Have some roasted vegies to be reheated..

This sort of reminds me of the old days of going to Lawry's (yes, by gum, the original), and getting a slab of meat and baked potato steaming away...
I don't have chives but I do have fresh scallions and can figure out some way to fool with this oldstyle type meal. (I've had enough fish soup for a few days.).

Enjoy that, osso! Very Happy

Me last night: a sort of chowder. With mainly potatoes, freshly harvested corn kernels & Lima beans. Not bad.

I'm still making my mind up about tonight. Maybe roasted vegetables & couscous?

...of one-pot wonders.

I made winter squash risotto with a little porcini and a little sage and a little chipotle.

That sounds really good, k.
Chipotle is a sort of smoked chili concoction? Or have I got that completely wrong?

Me:A small portion of grilled chicken with steamed French beans & a big salad.

mrs h is in the proces of clearing out the freezer . she found a nice pork roast and a chicken in the meat drawer . so she browned them up nicely first and tossed them in a big roating pan together with potatoes and carrots .
a 'light' meal - to strengthens us for the upcoming winter storm - should be ready within the hour (i'll be making the salad  ) .

Roasting a beautiful fat chicken on a bed of sweet potato sticks and one onion (two more onions inside the chicken) - threw in the end of a bottle of beer to sorta steam the last bit.

Boiling up some more sweet potatoes to make a mash for Set, who has oral surgery tomorrow - soft foods/liquids only Confused

Steaming some green beans - to be sauteed with some mushrooms and teenage bok choy.

It all smells so so good in here right now.

Had a fine lunch at Barelas with Dys and Diane.

Thus I dunno about dinner. Maybe a salad, and some walnuts previously toasted - some penzey's garlic granules (forget what they call them) and salt/pepper and a fat pinch of morton & bassett curry - all tossed with olive oil before the toasting.

comment on Barelas - best tamale within recent memory... one of my restaurant tests. Their chile relleno was good too, another test item.
Not a lot of slop over the dish, as Diane mentioned rather more nicely;
in either case - just right.

Who am I to comment, well, nobody.

I like cafes with people who know what they are doing in the kitchen, wherever they are.

I took the plunge & bought a steak this afternoon. A small one. I will cook it & eat it. (I'm feeling a bit run-down for no good reason & have hardly eaten any meat at all since around Christmas, so ...) Along with that, I have a number of options: salad (always!), plus broccoli, or French beans plus potatoes (steamed probably). Oh, this afternoon I bought my first Brussels sprouts in ages (which, unlike many of you, I love!). So perhaps Brussels sprouts with toasted slivered almonds on top?
Decisions, decisions ...!

We ventured into Cambridge to meet Hermione and her Fred at "Cambridge
Common." This is my kind of place: unpretentious, real food, extensive
beer menu. I had a Guiness beef stew. Lots of beef, potatoes, carrots,
and pearl onions in a thick, Guiness-laced stew accompanied by fresh
biscuits. I had a Magic Hat Mardi Gras Mystery Beer or two as well.

They also have meat loaf. I'm having that next time.

We ate at a Japanese hibachi style steak and seafood place. Great fun - and great food. One of the eggs for the fried rice was a doulble yolker - "Buy one get one free!".

Yeah, hibachi!
We used to go to a local one a lot when the kids were younger,
because the kids could eat free on Sundays.
