... & dessert?
You forgot to mention that, Gus.
Me, I had a late lunch/early dinner in my favourite eatery in Little Saigon, in Footscray. My favourite dish on the menu, too: The stuffed eggy "pancakes". Yum, yum, yum!
Coming up later tonight: "something" made with what was described to me as "Vietnamese spinach" by a Vietnamese friend yesterday at the market. It looked interesting & healthy so I bought a couple of bunches of the stuff. I'll probably saute it, with lots of garlic. (Any excuse!) And some steamed rice & something else .... It'll all become clear later!
still working on the freezer/fridge New Year's clean-out
finished off some stuff from a pre-Christmas appetizer fest - a few calamari and a half-dozen jalapeno poppers - a bit of an odd combo - but tasty, and it's two more packages out of the freezer
tomorrow - I think I'll make a faux-crab salad with lots of veggies, steam up some bok choy, and something
the something is the sticking point
That's it, ehBeth!
..."sticking"...
POTSTICKERS! (egg roll wrappers, filling, a little soy cream sauce...yum!)
Last night I made (for my gal-pals)
Chicken Korma
Sweet potato and cauliflower balti (for the faddy veggies)
Basmati rice (Pillau)
Chapatis
Salad
Naan (but I burnt them)
Ice cream
After eights ('cos we is classy chicks)
Drank:
2 Bottles of Moet
2 bottles of Hardys Crest Pinot Noir Chardonnay
1 bottle of Amarula (which was delicious - first time I tasted it)
1 bottle of Bacardi
2 large bottles diet coke
I took photos - but they are un-printable here.
Sang and laughed so much, my voice is all husky this morning.
x

(
You're in fine form tonight, farmer.)
Was that the roast guinea pig or curried?
smorg's meal sounds lovely (I'll pass on the guinea pig, farmerman).
Last night we had baked salmon with a hoisin/hot sauce glaze, oven-baked hash brown potatoes ('cause what hubby REALLY wanted was fattening fish and chips) and a green salad with apples and walnuts and a pear yogurt dressing. Someone else's homemade lemon squares (bought at the farmer's market) for dessert. Much later a glass of really nice port (a Christmas present; must thank my SIL).
smorgs, sounds like a great time.
farmer, How could you?!?
Last night I roasted a chicken and served it with mashed potatoes and gravy, Napa cabbage slaw and whole wheat baguette. For dessert? Jello!
We ate at an expensive french restaurant last night for my sister's birthday. It was, of course, very rich and meaty. They offered one vegetarian option: vegetable cakes and seasoned starch (that's what it was called) So, I ordered several appetizers instead.
First came the apple cider pumpkin soup - predominant flavor: apple cider. Very good, but sweet! Then came the fried mozzerella and tomatoe salad. I expected diced ingredients in a vinegrette. It was a whole, beautiful tomato (nearly impossible to find here right now) sliced in half with the mozzerella between. The tomato was deep red, hed the stem still attached. It was all drizzled with aged balsamic and sprinkled with basil frizze. Verry Verry good. Next was a spinach salad with a balsamic and fig dressing and feta cheese. Sans pancetta. Also good. Lastly was the chocolate lava cake. I expected the warm cake enclosing the hot, runny chocolate sauce which would rush out when the cake was cut into. What I got was a premade chocolate cake cup with some sort of dark chocolate pudding, the whole thing was room temp. Not exciting. They were all of the small french restaurant portion-size.
We had a red wine called boxcar which was so good that we ordered a second bottle of the same.
Other dishes that I can remember - a traditional french stew with various meats and choriso. Oddly they introduced an asian flavor to it and my b-in-l thought it tasted 'weird'. Scallops wrapped in bacon sitting atop a tmall potato pancake and covered with shredded cucumber. nut encrusted swordfish on isreali couscous covered in a coconut-butter sauce...........
Scutra is the name of the restaurant in case anyone is interested.
