Vegetarian portobello swiss burgers (President's Choice brand) on whole wheat buns with spanish onion and raspberry rhubarb chutney, and a green salad.

You should be able to find them at any Loblaws affiliated store, ehBeth. They come frozen 4 to a box. I get them at a No Frills near me. The ingredients aren't too awful (processed swiss cheese "food" but portobello mushrooms are the first ingredient so that's not so bad). There's soy protein in them so you're getting some protein without all the fat of a beef burger.

I can tell you like to cook ehBeth so let's be honest -- if you wanted to grill or saute some portobello mushrooms and serve them on a bun with real swiss cheese that would be the BEST. But these aren't bad at all. They were kind of our default burger when Boca burgers disappeared from the grocer's freezer (where did they go Crying or Very sad ?) Some of my son's friends are vegetarian (of the egg and cheese eating variety) and you don't always want to just toss a can of beans or box of Kraft dinner at them if they show up at the last minute. I don't know anybody who's tried them that didn't like them and I prefer them over a beef burger usually (but then I preferred the roasted onion Boca burger over beef burgers Very Happy ). I think there's enough onion and garlic in them to leave you with the impression that you're eating a "real burger" and of course the soy protein helps with the texture too. They don't taste "healthy" in the better-eat-this-cause-it's-good-for-me sense.

ok - that sounds like something that's be handy to have as a back-up, and tasty (ish?)

I think I'll look some up and experiment. I suspect the garnishes are what could make or break these. Your chutney choice sounds a 'maker'.

Did it have pineapple pieces on it, G? Razz

Nopes, but I took a double helping of chillies - also wore dark glasses and did not look anyone in the eye and tried to be as inconspicuous as possible

Very understandable, G. You have a reputation to protect, afterall ...

Cooked some barley in beef broth, added frozen peas and leftover lamb-you-can-eat-with-a-spoon, and voila! Scotch broth! Since it's everybody-eats-at-a-different-time tonight that works out well.

Last night: some Salada biscuits (crackers) with smoked mussels. Most of my dinners this week have come from my freezer. Oh, well, at least it's food I cooked myself. I must do better tonight. Roll on holidays!

Pasta with a tomato sauce with onions and garlic and spices and a smidge of hot italian sausage from Keller's, the good place. Sauce is bubbling now....
