@ehBeth,
Should we not reveal that Set's birthday is Monday? We don't want everyone to get all mushy about it---do we? After all, he's just a young whippersnapper.

Son now too!
And I do love them. I've been married for 4 years, and I love that girl more every day. I just can't believe how lucky I am.

Depending on the time of day, and his actions at the time, it alternates between "I love my brother" and insane jealousy!

@Wilso,
That always happens. That darling girl getting lots of attention usually eases the jealousy after a while. I hope.

Tonight I'm making "shrimp & ham jambalaya", according to this (US) cookbook I have open in front of me right now.
Of course, in Oz, shrimps are prawns.
I was looking for a recipe to cook in my claypot, because i haven't used it for quite a while, & came across this one.
Apparently this recipe is "not traditional", but hey, what would I know about what a traditional jambalaya is supposed to be like? No idea.
But so long as it tastes good, I'll be happy.

@msolga,
Hi msolga I'm joining you with the prawns, boat came in Friday and son flew over and made a personal delivery to me yesterday. Just picked up some fresh bread rolls, seafood sauce is ready and away we go, may even open a nice drop of wine from the Barossa Valley.

I made a so-so dinner Sunday night, but honestly, I've lost my mojo when it comes to cooking. I need to read this thread to get some inspiration.

Yeah, my mojo often flies away..

last night's dinner was good though: onion soup, called Tuscan onion soup in the recipe that I've already managed to lose track of: 3 slices of bacon quickly sauteed in olive oil (recipe called for pancetta), sauteed onions (5) and a little garlic, some previously cooked chopped swiss chard stems, water, salt, pepper. Delicious over no-knead sourdough bread.

Oh no, Swimpy!!!!! Surprised

(Just kidding. You'll get it back in no time, I'm certain of that. Smile )

Last night I cooked "chicken with 4o garlic cloves".
Roasted (covered) in a casserole dish, with skins on the cloves, plus bay leaves, rosemary & a little white wine ... the simplest version I could find.
Anyway, it was really very good. (the recipe promised no garlic breath. I hope that's right!)

Didn't cook tonight. Went to Big Daddy's with friends.

I had the smoked salmon crisp (smoked salmon with horseradish cream and onion jam on little latkes) and pulled pork sliders (shredded bbq pork on jalapeno corn bread with some kinda hot sauce).

Also had an adequate beer (Rickards Red) and great conversation. Love the group of pals I was out with tonight. We're a gang of survivors of a past employer.

@ehBeth,
there was some leftover cooked rice from last night

the sous chef sliced up some red pepper and diced some cooking onions and a lovely big sweet onion

I started sauteeing the red peppers, onions and some sliced mushrooms in an enormous skillet. Added cut up bits of chicken souvlaki (prepared but not cooked yet). Tossed in a can of peas and then stirred in the rice.

Served it with a mixed sampler of grape tomatoes.

Tasty.

@ehBeth,
It seems to have been nearly a month since anyone cooked!

I've started a clean-the-fridge-and-cupboard-out soup.

A cup or so of diced onions in olive oil, diced celery from a veggie dip box went in next. Sliced up a giant carrot and put it into the skillet with the onions and celery. Then a couple of opened-up and roughly chopped honey garlic sausages were tossed in.

After I'd rummaged around some more, I found a box of grape tomatoes reaching their last days. Using the scissors, I cut into them and popped them into the skillet. Stirred stirred stirred til the veggies had all sort of caramelized.

Added 2 cans of chunky beef soup that I'd bought for some reason. Chopped up broccoli and cauliflower from the veggie dip box, slivered some brussels sprouts found in the back of the fridge. Into the skillet they went. Found some diced red and green pepper and shredded carrot in a fancy mixed salad from the store - put them in the mix.

Everything is simmering nicely as I finish off carrot sticks and celery from the veggie dip box.

The soup smells deeeeeeeeelish.
