@Rockhead,
found one last apple, chopped it up
chunked up a giant red onion
threw both in casserole
covered apple/onion with a large jar of pickled red cabbage
plopped pork roast on top - covered it in bacon
tossed the whole mass into the oven

potatoes have boiled

it looks like it's gonna be good

skipped the squash - will stuff it with tonight's leftovers for tomorrow and roast that

I bought some gorgeous big Royal Gala apples in anticipation of making a crisp.

What's a crisp? With apples - or pears?

Here - a crisp is what you're burnt to, under the Australian sun - if you don't take adequate precautions.

@ehBeth,
So I made two spinach, etc., pies, somewhat but not entirely doubling the recipe. Good and easy enough to do again, next time really doubling it.
Also, meant to add lemon peel and forgot. Meantime, I ate 1/2 a pie...

@ossobuco,
I'm curious about why you switched out the nutmeg for the more savoury version. Not a nutmeg fan?

@ehBeth,
Yes, I do like it, but wanted to play, and I do like savory. It may be my particular peculiar tastebud needs.

@ossobuco,
Ossobuco, your spinach, ricotta torte sounded wonderful.
Chicken, broccoli, casserole. Extra wide egg noodles, parmesan crust.

Why don't people enjoy the dark poultry meats?

@alex240101,
I love dark poultry meat. It is much more moist and flavorful that white meat.

Regarding crisps, just think of a good Dutch apple pie without the crust.

@Rockhead,
A giant bowl of Special K with milk and a dollop of strawberry jam.

I'll see if I want anything else after dance class.

@mismi,
I needed comfort food today too - it got cold outside (well, what we Californians consider cold anyway).

I made my Mom's hamburgers (with parsley, bread crumbs, eggs) and mashed
potatoes. Everyone loved it, including the dog - sans the potatoes.

@CalamityJane,
I am also here in the harsh climate of So Ca. However, I still have some New England blood in me so I don't suffer from the cold as much. Wink Nonetheless, I had a very fine chicken soup with a host of ingredients that my friend would not reveal. Though I did note the baby bok choy.

@NickFun,
and in the mild climate of eastern ontario ... ... it's still above freezing in the daytime and nice sunshine - just had to pull the blind !

had some leftover fishcakes (from yesterday's salmon) , red potatoes in the jacket with plenty of sweet butter , green beans and a glas of V 8 .

i see it's almost 4 o'clock - time to make some tea (earl grey) and toast a slice of cranberry/raisin bread .

@hamburger,
It is in near 100 degrees today, so it will be simple, cold chicken and salads, with ice cream and tropical fruits for dinner tonight.

@Dutchy,
i'm beginning to feel sorry for dutchy !
he'll have to "dine" on cold food - no hot potatoes for him - no furnace running to keep the temperature at 21 C - i guess he won't even consider putting snowtires on his car .
