You liked it? I've eaten something similar a few times at restaurants, but finally it seemed to be a matter of too many tortillas, too little ommph, in those cases.

I did see frito pie for sale just yesterday, did a quick double take... it was at a stand outside of Home Depot.

I admit to loving an old enchilada recipe tossed from friend to friend, basically the usual enchilada ingredients layered in a casserole. Very popular in LA in the late seventies. The thing recently is dryer... but what I may have tried and you cooked are probably different.

I have just finishing eating three pieces of cinnamon raisin toast literally saturated in butter.

J_B will be so proud of me.

I was due to go out for dinner, to a new Burmese restaurant last night.

But - the friend I was due to go with had a death in the family and didn't feel up to going out. Guess what - there was no Plan B!

Cheese and Vegemite on toast - which is fine - but not the same as an interesting meal at a new restaurant!

On the run tonight, so had a take-away for the first time in ages. A half way healthy one, though ... a falafel roll, with lots of greens, garlic sauce, a bit of chili, olives, middle eastern preserved vegetables, etc, etc, etc .... made by the very charming & friendly Egyptian man at the Half Moon Cafe.

I love falafal. We can't get it around here in Podunk. I've tried to make it at home, but it's pretty messy.

I have had really great falafel and really bad (usually) falafel. The good stuff is one of my favorite foods.

Tonight's meal was a one bowl wonder. Mini penne and baby spinach tossed with pesto and goat cheese.

tonight was supposed to be steak and a couple of creative side dishes, but I forgot to defrost the steak so we are settling for spaghetti. Nothing wonderful but a good standby.

If all else fails there's always pasta, Aldistar!

Tonight, craving simple food, I made a mushroom & spinach curry-ish thing. On steamed Basmati rice, again. (I love steamed rice! I think I may be addicted.)

Swimpy & k

Mr & Mrs Half Moon make a terrific falafel! I confess I've never even attempted to make it myself. Why would I, considering their is so much good & inexpensive middle eastern food in my immediate neighbourhood? Anyway, I doubt I could make it half as well. The Half Moon Cafe also sells a fantastic, smokey babaganoush! (I bought some of that, too, last night. Delicious!)

Panzade, I like the grill basket and warmer. The kind that never rusts or wears out.

I just returned from the land of fruit and nuts (California) but had to come down to earth and fix dinner tonight after watching Seabiscuit for the second time while trying some wines that came from our "gift" cage (stuff people have given us that doesn't go into the regular, uh, vault.) One was okay, the second (a cheval blanc) was to die for. I cooked and served dinner and we were just starting on the cheval blanc when my roommate became insufferable so I left the room, the dinner, the wine.

I know that my broiled fresh flounder was superb, the sides were excellent, but I don't really know for sure because it is sitting cooling where I am not.

Another bought meal tonight. Feeling tired & cold & in no mood to cook & wash up a pile of dishes & pots & pans after ..... so quick visit to the Himalayan Cafe, just a hop, step & jump away from home. Mrs Himalaya supplied me with one of her meat curry & 3 veg packs (tonight: lamb curry, dahl, dry spicy potatoes, beans on steamed rice. Very nice!) The thing I like about Mrs Himalaya's food is that it's just like home cooking. Nothing too fancy, just a good, healthy & filling meal. And very inexpensive, too! Very Happy

Last night I defrosted 2 lbs of ground beef and cooked up one giant cheeseburger. Set off the smoke alarm.

Last night we had roast chicken, roast asparagus and morel risotto. (A coworker found the morels, I'm too lazy to look.)

I found about twenty morels yesterday. Gave them all to my Mom for Mother's Day.
