Morning George.
Steak Sicliano, baked potato, and white asparagus. First time with white asparagus. I'm wondering what all the hype is.

Slow cooker puttanesca tonight -- diced tomatoes, olives, garlic, capers, chicken thighs. I mis-read the instructions and added twice as much red chili pepper as called for...this could prove interesting.

Sounds like it should be just right.

Well, I guess a little extra heat will be appreciated up here in the snow belt!

Since they haven't got around to plowing our street, I think we're going to be inventive.

I have all the fixings for tacos/burritos, but no tortillas/taco shells - and I am not going out there!

So, it's going to be burrito innards served on some sort of pasta - with guac/sour cream/salsas/cheese/tomatoes/leafy stuff on the side.

Different <shrug>, but I think it'll be tasty.

Beth, do you have lettuce? Lettuce leaves make pretty good wrappers.

We've got lettuce - but it's that itty-bitty baby lettuce.

Last night we had spaghetti with ragu and sausages. What made this meal special was the pasta, Garafalo that I bought at Costco. Wow, can't recommend it enough. Great stuff.

We ended up wrapping up and walking to the nearest grocery store with the dogs - Set went in and picked up taco shells and a lovely lovely tomato.

We had a really good taco dinner.

Urp.

Last night we had Chinese "old year" dinner at The New Trend Eatery in
Allston. Crab Meat & Fish Maw Soup, Cantonese Style Roast Chicken,
Bean Curd with Crispy Skin, Lobster with Ginger, Honk Kong Style Pork
Chop, Bean Leaves, and sweet red bean soup. Then we went over to my
sister-in-law's for dessert. Oh yeah, I really needed dessert...
Urp.

Scallops & shrimp stir fried in peanut oil with green onions, garlic, then pour on some fish sauce/water/cornstarch, toss in a handful of shelled peanuts and some fresh basil. Had it over brown rice, with some hot chili oil sprinkled on.

Now for the homemade brownies Very Happy and possibly Rolaids Shocked

Yummmmmmmm....and burp.......

George, tell us about the bean curd with crispy skin - was it stuffed? What was the sauce?

That sounded like a fantastic meal.

Yes, George's Chinese dinner sounds delicious indeed, except I don't
like ginger with my lobster - ginger has such an overpowering taste, it takes
away from the lobster.

It's true I'm presently off of ginger. Got an overdose at a vietnamese (vietnamese? I don't remember ginger with vietnamese food) restaurant here, which is too bad as I've liked it for years.

Tonight I'm having Cupboard Melange. A couple of days ago, I'd finally opened a can of baked beans. Why did I buy them, anyway.. Yep, they remind me of my cousins, whom I do like. I know the canned beans are too sweet. And, yes, they're still too sweet. Maybe I could rinse them and use in soup.. so I put them in the refrigerator, likely to be thrown out later.

But tonight I cooked some arborio rice, added some rinsed canned black beans, the rinsed "baked beans", and some brockwurst, the packaged kind. Man, I'm really going downhill fast. Threw in some sweet red pepper sauce.

OK, it's edible...

I do love black beans and rice, with fresh halibut and onion sauce... especially from Rincon Criollo cafe in west LA. Too bad I'd no halibut for the hellofit.

Edit, that actually tasted good... might do it again sometime on purpose.

ginger and curry : i like it but a little goes a long way with me .
i like "just a touch" of ginger with stirfried vegetables .
i sometimes make a dip to go with shrimp , fish or roast-pork and add just a sprinkle of MILD curry to it - i'm sure it wouldn't be enough to satisfy anyone who is into indian food .

btw watched a real indian cooking show some time ago . the indian woman putting on the show said that GOOD indian food requires very little , often no curry . she claimed that it was the british who started overpowering true indian food with curry .

That sounded like a fantastic meal.

Yes, it is stuffed with chopped shrimp.
The sauce was viscous and slightly sweet with a hint of soy.

That was the dinner to close out the old year.
Next we'll have one for the new year.
