I think Bush should be prosecuted for hiring illegals once he is a civilian.

But it was the Californian GOP who hired them ...

That hardly applies Walt.... The SAN FRANCISCO Chron playing political hardball with the GOP in their sights, going after an Aussie who seems to have at least tried to immigrate legally... as compared to 20M+ who jumped the border...

I'm surprised at you.

Well, he should have been deported already in 2001.

Nevertheless, carry on with your good work.

The Amnesty Bill got the cloture vote today....so we'll see what happens next week when these spineless politicians face the final vote.

Some of them have spines; they've stood up to the right wing well enough.

The chances of it passing in the Senate is almost zero, but they can keep trying.

Almost zero? It passed cloture today with enough of a margin to have a few peel off and pass the next cloture vote as well.

Most of the articles of late on the subject of immigration reform shows not many will change their vote to allow "amnesty" and temporary work permits. Since most of the democrats are working to provide amnesty and temporary work permits, the divide will not change all that much.

From the same article:
Tuesday's outcome was far from conclusive, however. The measure still must overcome another make-or-break vote as early as Thursday that will also require the backing of 60 senators, and there is no guarantee that it will ultimately attract even the simple majority it needs to pass.

"The first thing we've got to recognize in the country is that the system isn't working; the immigration system needs reform. The status quo is unacceptable. Most Americans understand that," Bush said, insisting it was a "complex, carefully crafted piece of legislation. And it's a practical approach."

No Mr. President.

What we have to understand is that your administration and those before you did not enforce the immigration laws we already have. Now you tell us the present law is not working?

Not only do you and your ass-ociates in Congress think the American people are ignorant, you also think we are stupid.

Most of thinking Americans believe know that this current "SHOW" in Congress is for TV purposes only. Whatever you do end up passing (if anything at all), will more than likely be worse than the laws already on the books.

Yet, we may never know, since not only did the Govt not enforce old laws, more than likely, you won;t enforce any new immigration laws.

You and your friends in Congress should be impeached as traitors to the Constitution.

Let Cyclops and the rest of the luney left as well as the repulsive right get involved in your little word games.

Thinking Americans know what is going on, which is nothing much at all.

Laughing

You're a laff riot, my friend. My only dog in this hunt is that I like seeing the Republicans split.

It's more than the "republican split." It's the GOP members of congress split with Bush. They're all looking at the next election cycle, and know their jobs are on the line. It's a riot.

It's more than a riot, it's a wedge. One that can be exploited long before the next election comes about.

Expect Bush's poll numbers to continue to drop, as his base - the only people left who are voting for him - feel betrayed by this bill.

c.i. and clclo, are you suggesting we give the reins to the dumbocrats so that they can give away social security along with the parts of the country we've already lost? Geesh, it's even noticable way up here in Michigan - sometimes it looks like a Mayan revival. Where do all these 5'2" tall, dark skinned, dark haired people come from? Obviously not from here, this is the land of 6' tall blonde WOMEN. They appear suddenly and in huge numbers. Where do they get cars? License plates? Licenses? Insurance? Where?

I don't even know where to begin with this quasi-racist screed.

I shouldn't even have to tell you that Michigan isn't exactly the ancestral home of 6' tall blond women...

When you talk about driving a wedge into the decent, hardworking, American public, understand you will piss off a lot of people, Cyclo. You are lower than low. It has nothing to do with Bush - it's part of the left wing's master socialist plan, and you know it.

That plan will bring about a new civil war. You better be ready.

Double Laughing What, are you going to come for us with your big guns and lay down the justice?

I'm talking about driving a wedge into the Republican party, splitting them the same way that the Republicans used 'wedge issues' for years in order to maintain dominance in Washington.

You should take a deep breath, Ceej. You're sounding a little crazed today, even for you. Don't worry, the scawwy mexicans aren't going to steal your jobs and ruin your life Laughing at least, no more so then they already were.

Why don't you just come out and admit that there's a racist element behind your opposition to the immigration bill?
