Bill, do you have those stats on immigration rates during various time periods in the past?

Someone made a comment earlier on the thread which I believe is specifically countered by those rates.. .but I can't find it...

Cheers

The truth is far from absurd. Is it possible that you don't believe that what the Germans did was barbaric? I normally stay away from the subject since it is difficult for me to find words that would pass muster on this forum to express my feelings.

It is absurd for you to paint Thomas with your prejudice. Your own views are 10 times more nationalistic than Thomas's, so who's opining more like a Nazi; you or he?

No intention to paint Thomas with the deeds and the barbarirsm of the Germans. He just touched the nerve and for that i apologize to him. However, there is no doubt that the establishment of the State of Israel was a direct response to the German atrocities. You may be able to wipe the slate clean but not I. As for calling me an Natzi either you are too stupid to understand or just don't care. And personally I don't give a sh*t about you opinion.

Good on you, that.

So you believe the sins of the father should be visited upon the son?

Au has a difficult time looking at this situation obejctively.

Which I understand - it's a personal thing - but it makes for poor argumentation.

What other country in the world allows millions to cross their borders and stay illegally with guaranteed education based on their own language rather than the language of the country they entered illegally and requires that medical services be provided whether they can be afforded or not?

Is there any other country that does that?

I wouldn't necessarily set my own boundaries at what others have done; and I hardly think it appropriate for the wealthiest, most successful nation on planet Earth.

That's a no… added to the opinion that I find the idea, of aspiring to follow rather than lead, repugnant to the memory of the giants that made this country great.

I am very proud of America for this. I honestly don't know if there is any other country.

Americas ability to take in and educate immigrants has been a great benefit to the country. Millions of illegal immigrants from Ireland, Italy, Greece, Poland and Germany came-- along with the legal ones.

The fact that after a generation the children of illegal and legal immigrants were all equals meant that there was a large educated workforce with no permanent underclass.

This is just one part of America's proud history. I have no need to follow other countries in this.

I look at it pragmatically - we need these people. We want people to be here, in order to do a bunch of sh*t I don't want to do.

We want their tax money.

I'm indifferent to pretty much all other factors. I've tried to examine my emotional response to this issue.... and I don't think it's responsible to set national policy based upon my personal emotion but on a logical analysis of the situation.

So, I suppose we'd save a lot of money and effort by just opening the borders completely and letting anyone in that wants to be here? No quota's? No criminal or medical checks? Just let everyone in, educate them and provide all of the medical, housing and wlefare needs they may have?

I'd like to take this time to applaud Cyclops for showing the decency and intelligence to adjust his opinion as this discussion went on. (You've come a very long way from suggesting we mine the border.) It is a rare pleasure to see someone actually adjust their mindset here on A2K.

I don't object to criminal or medical checks; but otherwise; yep.

Not similar since the UN voted in favor of the establishment of the State of Israel. The Jews are not in Israel illegally.

Note: It's establishment was a response to the barbarism of your bretheran

The second point point is true, but irrelevant to our discussion. Being a victim does not confer a right to victimize others.

It is also true that the UN did not vote in favor of the illegal settlements on the Gaza strip and the west bank. Would you say the Palestinians there have an equally good case as you have against Mexicans?
