It makes my mouth all dry, and the fake taste lasts forever, and it feels like I washed my mouth with soap. I've tried many different brands and they are all yucky, even Tom's. I am on well water so there is no fluoridation.

Help!

Or try storing your toothbrush in Palmolive.

It would be such a shame to mar this marvelous smile just for the sake of false teeth. Isn't Ultra Brite just as soapy and yucky as the rest of 'em?

Baking soda and salt.

Nothing yukky. Nice clean feeling. Fresh and lovely.

Buy a floride rinse. Use it before brushing.

Problem solved.

Oh gosh no! You'll kill your gums!

95% soda, 5% salt.

I too hate anything that tastes perfumy. I buy the baking soda toothpaste (original flavor) these days but when I can't find it I revert to the real stuff.

OTOH, you might hate the taste of baking soda toothpaste as much as the other. I've tried it and can't stand the taste of the stuff.

You can get fluoride tablets or drops at the pharmacy or a rinse that you spit out.

Is it the foam or the phoney mint taste (or both) that bothers you most?

I finally went back to crest - they make a low-impact mint toothpaste line. And, they add in other flavors, including lemon.

Well I know this going to sound silly but when I was a kid I never seemed to notice any yucky effects from toothpaste: the dry mouth, the fake really long lasting taste, the soapiness etc. I hate all those things. You think well water (being so hard) makes toothpaste not rinse out as well?

I'm on well water too. I have a long lasting aftertaste from the toothpaste but I don't mind it much. You could do an experiment and try keeping a small bottle of bottled water in the bathroom that you use for brushing your teeth.

Do you use a water softener? If so, there might be something that alters the water as it's processed through the softener.

No water softener, good idea about the bottled water, see if it makes a difference.

Do you brush you tongue and the roof of your mouth as well?

Maybe if after brushing and rinsing you brush your tongue and roof with plain cold water. Perhaps the paste is getting coated on there?

When you say yucky, do you mean the mint taste?
I absolutely hate Crest...it's gross.

For those of you that gag when you try to brush your tongue, or the teeth in the back of your mouth, try smiling while you brush.

I picked that up from one of those CSI shows...the chick was at the morgue with one of the guys, and they were looking at a ripe one...The guy asked her, "why are you smiling" She said "Because it suppresses the gag reflex.

It's got to be a big fake smile though, but honestly, it really works.
