Secret societies... what is the secret?

Every secret society fears it's worst (living) heretic. Secret societies exist today under different conditions but the rituals and the motions are still the same.

People desire to worship God but they have no idea of how to worship God. So anything under the sun is fair game. But is God really amused? Is God really pleased by our human antics? Does God respond to constant whining, and does God feed off of the guilt people hide behind?

Worship should be secret, because it is sacred and solemn, it is not readily understood by the average observer.

And, of course, one of the principal secrets of secret societies is their membership list. I don't know any Masons, however, who do not advertise their membership. It is no longer an issue for them.

Is the free world more powerful than secret societies?
