BigDice is away from home for two weeks - one week is over now. Obviously, it's my fault he is gone. Nisse looks at me very accusingly. In the morning he stays on the bed and just stares. He misses his 'dad'.

Did any of you Colorado A2Kers lose a cat?

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- El Paso County deputies are looking for an African lion on the loose in the eastern part of the county.

Sheriff's Lt. Lari Sevene said the first call came in of large cat chasing several dogs through a field off of Log Road. That call came in at 7:35 a.m. The resident told deputies the cat had a red mane and a big tail. Officers obtained a photo of the big cat.

A second sighting was reported after the first and a second resident also took a picture of the lion.

A reverse-911 alert went out to residents in the Falcon Highway and Log Road area to let them know about the animal. A second call will go out when the coast is clear.

State wildlife officers found tracks of the lion, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Michael Seraphin, of the Colorado Division of Wildlife, told the Gazette that the two photos taken by residents and tracks found by DOW officers confirm the animal is an African lion and not a mountain lion.

Big Cats of Serenity Springs, a sanctuary that houses lions, tigers, leopards and other animals about 5 miles away, told 7NEWS that none of its cats are missing and they have checked several times. A spokesman said he believes the lion is someone's pet that got loose.

Imported and exotic species brought into Colorado are regulated. Some are legal with permits; some are prohibited.

The area where the lion was spotted in sparsley populated, with pockets of mobile homes and livestock.

Anyone who sees the lion is asked to call the El Paso County Sheriff's Office at 719-390-5555.

The animal was last spotted around 10 a.m., about a mile southwest of the original sighting.

Officials are waiting for a police helicopter to search from the air.

If you have taken a picture of the lion, please send it to [email protected].

(In case any of you are wondering what this is all about ...
Neko chan, (one of neko nomad's doted-on cats) is the absolute spitting image (!) of one of my very dear, not-so-long-ago departed critters, Mozz. So I get very excited, you see, whenever I see new neko chan snaps! Sometimes I have to prod neko nomad a little, to encourage him to post his latest neko chan photographs! :wink: She's not a spring chicken any more, but what terrific shape she's in! And what a brilliant life she leads, lucky girl! Very Happy )

.... & of course, that someone would be you, margo! :wink:

OK then, when the to-sell-or-not-to sell-the-home dramas are over ( Rolling Eyes ) .... I will finally become familiar with that long ago purchased tiny digital camera ... & learn to post photographs, even! <gasp>

In the meantime, I can tell you that Ms Poppy is looking absolutely exquisite, as always! Though a wee bit on the winter chunky side, mind ... Actually, she is shrieking at me for her dinner, as I type! She is now considerably more assertive than when I rescued her from Lort Smith Animal Hospital, I can tell you!

How is the Possum cat of Sydney fairing these days?

Quite off-putting, isn't it neko, when our precious felines behave like ... well, animals? Wink

His sleeping positions give some indication of why the breed is called ragdolls

@hingehead,
What a beautiful, laid-back cat, hinge! (I wonder how s/he gets on in tropical Cairns, with all that fur.)
You & Mrs hinge have quite a creature menagerie, don't you?

@msolga,
We leave the air conditioning on for him on hot days (he's an inside cat).

Sam's ability to sleep anywhere is legendary - he can even sleep on top of a maltese terrier:
