This looks very much like Stefan's desk, dys. The cat's different... well, different color, same posture...

Even though I know she'll be much safer boarding, than here at home with someone feeding her, the idea of her being captive, in a strange place, is upsetting. Especially since she was abandonned before I adopted her. Sad

She's such a dear, trusting little thing .... yet here am I plotting something I doubt she'll like much at all!

Yeah, I know. I'm pathetic.

me too, I used to come home in tears after leaving ours! feeling like Attila the Hun Crying or Very sad It's a bit easier leaving them with my parents - I know that Rosie will be stubborn but ok.

mspoppy won't be happy but she will be safe and cared for and it's only a short break.

I nearly travelled close to 400 miles round trip a couple of years ago, because Rosie was being stubborn and hadn't eaten for 3 days - I was going to pick her up and drive back with her and keep her with us! She ate then though the little madame so I didn't have to

There isn't really a number one cat - I favour Rosie and himself favours Paddy but they don't struggle to be top cat and of course we both love them both.

Paddy is ok at my parents and friendly to them but a bit stir crazy by the time we collect him! He's a very outdoors cat. He's not so keen on the cold though and only stayed out for a couple of hours this morning - he's snoozing again.

Hi, cat people....

Wanted to share this...
I play with my cat with a toy I made out of 4 feet of elastic tied to a 3 foot stick. She loves it. She's 15, but doesn't act like it... jumping and pouncing. Well, I posted this photo on another thread....
http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/7650/img27196xn.jpg
And someone actually thought I hated cats and when I explained the photo, they replied that it's mean to torment cats! I'm shocked!

What does everyone here think?

And what do A2Kers do when someone keeps jumping to conclusions about them and posting untruths?

This is exactly the kind of thing that cats love, caribou. It's clear from the photo. Someone who thinks you're tormenting a cat with such a thing doesn't understand cats.

As to people pouncing, that's a tough one. I'm very nonconfrontational. Sometimes I try to come up with a measured response. Sometimes I just don't respond at all but continue the discussion. And sometimes I just slink away (and stew). Other people have different ways of coping with such matters. You have to find your own comfort zone. Unfortunately, there are enough pouncers around to make this an issue. But no pouncers in the Cat Room except for the four-legged furry variety. Welcome here, btw.

thank you, margo and roberta, for the welcome.

and thank you for the thoughts. I know I have to figure out how to deal with pouncers, and that it's not cat related exactly...

It's that difference between real life and A2K life, I guess.
I'd never tolerate it my real life, but here, I realize that people only know me by what I type.

Thanks for listening.

And Dante IS very fuzzy...

Do you think anyone was actually serious about the tormenting thing?

I forgot to say how utterly gorgeous Dante is - he looks as if he knows it as well!

and so is new 'tormented' cat! Rosie likes games like that but she takes soooo long wriggling and getting ready to pounce that whoever is playing gets bored!

Oh caribou, whoever said that you were tormenting your cat was just an old grouch. Ignore such people, they aren't worth your time. I don't know any cat who wouldn't love to play catch the string, tape, whatever.

Your kitty looks lots like Dante, just smaller and less...well...plump...

After catching up on the thread, I see that bird baths are being considered. I had a cat many years ago who loved to nap in the birdbath whenever it dried out--very easily done in this part of the country. After seeing his futile efforts to attract birds, my mother let him have it all to himself.

Timber, that photo is a classic!!

So, guys, all howebbed out for the day. It's always a great start to the day to see all you cat lovers.

OK. just one more photo. Dante loves to sleep on top of the kitchen cabinets--it is very warm, with the heating vent blowing right toward him. Dys put a bag of catnip up there which Dante uses as a pillow. Quite often, one or more body parts will be dangling over the edge.....

That's so funny. I would be tempted to pull on that leg and torment it for a bit.

Yes, I think they were. It wasn't the first time, I'm sure it won't be the last time this person chooses to misunderstand me and then say mean things about me, instead of just asking what I meant.

And now I am realizing how ridiculous the whole thing is and how I shouldn't take it too seriously. But I haven't been on A2K long, I'm a bit shy-ish and feel like it's going to take some time to make the connections that some of you that have been here for years have... and that's okay. But this one negative is a big negative and I need to get a better perspective on it.

So thanks once again for letting me talk, hearing you responses make me see things better, if that makes sense...

Diane, Thanks for the new photo of Dante. Why do cat lovers love taking photos of parts of cats that are sticking out? Because they amuse us. That's why. I have photos of tails, legs, etc. sticking out from wherever the cat is situated.

Caribou, Glad the matter has been straightened out.

I'm back!

... & collected Ms Poppy from the cat boarding establishment earlier in the day on the way home.

Oh dear, she didn't like it at all! Apparently she was "extremely timid" & reclusive while there. Ate & pooed only when staff were well & truly out of sight. No desire to have anything to do with anyone. At least they were honest about it .... they could have told fibs.

So I picked her up & she continually meowed loudly & plaintively all the way back home in my car. (A 5 minute trip)

Then, when she got home she was so happy! .... but kept running into which-ever part of the house or yard I happened to be in at the time .... meow, meow, meow! Just to check if I was still there. Every 5 minutes! Very vocal!

... and kept throwing herself in my path, doing flip-flops (for tummy rubs & pats) wanting reassurance. Poor little thing, she didn't cope terribly well at all with the boarding experience.

A few hours later & she's a lot more settled & happy. All is well. Very Happy

Welcome back!! Hope you had a good vacation and got some much-needed rest.

Poppy will be fine. You'll spoil her rotten, and she'll be her old self in no time.
