good news Ragman - and you are lucky about the special diet going down well ..... Timmy
hated it and as his kidney disease was terminal I wish I hadn't made him have it

- a shorter life maybe but a happier one for a while.
Diane the photos are lovely - they really do get on well together. And I agree with the others .... no diet! cats really don't take kindly to diets as Boida says. Vets can be tooo strict.
Mikey is obviously
brave not insensitive!
Hiya Viv, Mikey is a bully. And vets don't have to adhere to the diets they recommend. They tell us to put the guy on a diet. Then they go home and feed their cats everything in sight. We're left with the thankless job of trying to get a cat to eat less. Fact is, trying to get a cat to do anything it doesn't want to do is both thankless and futile. That's part of their charm. They will not be tamed. They may be classified as domesticated, but those of us living with felines know better.
hiya!
how very true
Himself tried to take a bird off Paddy that he'd caught - so he ran off and didn't come in for nearly 24 hours!
Now it's colder Rosie is getting cuddlier again but only of course on her terms

- no chatting, no laughing, not phone calls, no reading, pay
attention, support her back, stroke the ears .......
lol, Viv. Rosie sounds like Miranda. IN CHARGE.
I watch the Dog Whisperer--a show on cable about people with problem dogs. Nine times out of ten, the dog is running the show (the source of the problem).
What's with us pet owners? We rule the world but not our pets. At least with dogs, if you act in charge, you can be in charge. With cats, fuggedaboudit. We can act in charge all we want to, but the cat knows who's running the show--and so do we.
Thanks all for the compliments on the photos Dys took of Sally and Dante.
Actually, Dys is the one suffering from Dante's diet. Dante gets hungry around 4:00AM and meows in that incessant way cats have.
Now, I swear, Dante just sits in the doorway to the bedroom and stares at Dys, waking him up with the power of his mental message, "I'm hungry, dammit, and you'd better get up right now and feeeed me!"
We aren't doing anything drastic, just cutting down a little and Dante seems to be coming along. The vet said cats shouldn't lose more than one pound a month, so it will be a slow, gentle process.
Eva, you sweetie, yes Dante is a big boy and he is "big-boned," but I have to admit that he looks pregnant. He weighs around 15 pounds now and the vet says he should weigh approximately 10 to 12 pounds, so this isn't a major event. We'll see how it goes and how fatigued Dys gets from the diet and the early hours. LOL
Urs, happy sixth anniversary with Nisse and Mysan. How true about not being able to imagine life without them. As Dys said one night, "We have a nice little family, don't we?" And we do, loving every minute with them.
Diane, You and Dys tolerate feline vocalizing while you're sleeping? This is where I draw the line. Shut your trap, Mikey, or get out of the room. I close the door (he's on the other side). Of course vocalizing is better than being attacked--the end of Mikey's short-lived diet.
Speaking of shutting the door reminds me of the time Mikey got me so angry that I threw him out of the bedroom and slammed the just a tad too hard. It got stuck. Forty-plus years of paint over paint will do that. If I hadn't been laughing so hard, I would have called the fire department. Thought I'd have a bit more credibility if I wasn't laughing. Between guffaws I looked around for some kind of tool to help me pry open the door. Nothing. Who keeps tools in the bedroom? I eventually got the door opened. It was a matter of pressure and weight. I stopped laughing eventually. Mikey was indifferent to the entire thing. So what else is new?
the bird was apparently squeaking pitifully msolga as the little monster made off
I hope it died quickly.
Diane your family sound absolutely delightful and real characters - beautiful as well. Do post more photos.
Paddy the monster would have had bird-surprise-au-naturel for breakfast by now if he was in your household

Rosie would be far to scared of bird and dog! a real baby that one.
Roberta Paddy wakes us up in the early hours (
if he's in) for a little stroking and a cuddle (the only time he's bothered) and the hope that someone (himself -
no way am I getting up in the early hours!) will get up and let him out. Stamp tramp stamp - purrrr purrr purrr - miaow! stamp stamp - play the piano - settle down on top of me so I can't move ......
I'm willing to put up with a lot, and I do put up with a lot. But NOBODY MESSES WITH ME WHEN I'M SLEEPING!

NOBODY! Both Mikey and Miranda had some unfortunate encounters with me when they interrupted my sleep or made noise which prevented me from sleeping. Okay, so I got locked in the bedroom once. But mostly I get uninterrupted sleep. Grrrr. Snarl. Snort.
For Miranda, I kept a water gun near the bed. She opened her mouth, she got squirted.
For Mikey, I keep a super-soaker (giant water gun) near the bed. A regular water gun didn't faze him, but the super-soaker is a deterrant--more or less.
sometimes when Rosie won't come in when we want to leave for work we have to turn the hose on the garden - that makes her run in! (no good with Paddy though as he's not a coward and just takes himself off out of the garden - she daren't go that far!) We look a little strange in mid winter apparently watering the garden
I used the water gun technique to stop Paddy scratching the furniture.
Rosie has just been told off for going to nip me because she didn't want disturbing so she's off me at the moment. Vicious little madam.
She has taken to sleeping on the stairs so broken ankles could be in store for us
And why is it we have cats for pets? These animals can be a gigantic pain in the patoot. We're all gluttons for punishment.
Aw, I don't know about that, Roberta!
They have their moments of great charm, too!
Yup, msolga, charm. And they're funny. Also very strong personalities. I know why we keep these animals. But I have to wonder whether other so-called domestic animals are this much trouble.
I won't deny that cats are stroppy, contrary, horrendously stubborn, manipulative, up themselves, & further more, leave fur over everything, Roberta ....
But superior folk like us here on this thread like the challenge of a pet who is the
equal of us!
Vivien, I have to laugh every time I think of you drenching poor Rosie with the garden sprinkler on freezing winter days to get her to do the right thing!

don't worry she scoots in before the water reaches her
........... well ..... unless I misjudge it and then she only gets a
slight shower!
