Lou ran out the door tonight like he often does. Five minutes later, he returned, soaked. Seems he isn't a very good weatherman.

So...my Oscar is officially on his last paws......

He has a cough which has become chronic.

We can keep it somewhat at bay with antibiotics and steroids, but less and less so as time goes on.

I am now on the watching whether he is happy and comfortable thing, and will make the decision when he indicates that his happiness is affected.

He has perked up again with some new antibiotics, so it is watch and wait.

Schniff.

Deb, I'm so sorry. Sad

Oscar has been such a splendid critter (despite the fact that he occasionally enjoys a poo in your bed! Very Happy ) He has shared your life & brought you so much pleasure. Now for the hard part.

I know about the waiting & watching for signs thing (very well! Sad ) & you have my complete sympathy. It makes one so melancholy, watching helplessly for signs: A good day or a bad day? It's a heart-breaking process, this day-by-day vigil. <sigh>

How old is Oscar now? Do you have any recent photographs? I'd love to see some if you do! The last photographs I saw were quite some time ago. How is your other little cat taking his illness? (I'm sorry, I've forgotten her name.) How are you coping? And what illness does the cough signify? (I don't know much about this.)

Hugs to you, Deb. And also for Oscar & your other gorgeous critter, too. Please post here as often as you feel the inclination, if you want to talk, seek advice, etc.

Schniff...thank you all for your kind thoughts.

Actually, I be fine, although I will be a mess when it happens....

I have had critters since I was a toddler....many rescued wild things. This means that I learned about the death thing with them so early, that I am fairly calm and accepting of it all......until I have to deal with the death.

Oscar is 13...yes, he has been a sweet cat, despite the poohing!!!

He is a lovely quietly affectionate cat.....just wants to be with you all the time....often just snuggling gently...or looking deep into my eyes with a lovely, loving, soft shine to his eyes.

I can tell pretty easily when his is getting miserable....he greets me less energetically, stays "in bed", and is less interactive and playful.

I think I will know pretty accurately when he is about to become unhappy.

Deb: I know what you are going through. I have monitored my older cats from December until just a few weeks ago. I lost my Tequila shortly after his sister Pewter. They were 14 yr old Balinese. LOUD MEOWS! I am sad for you, Deb. I loved them very much.

I just got two kittens that were from a rescued momma Persian. They are INCREDIBLE! I forgot how much kittens can make you laugh again even though you have lost your buddies! Coco is the girl...longish mocha colored hair with beautiful gold eyes and hair between her toes. Fergus ("manly strength" or "dear one" in Gaelic) is the boy....grey tiger with white and black and grey spots....kinda like an Ocicat but not! They are 4 months old this weekend and they have made my heart happy again. Their meows are so quiet, I can't believe it. Sort of a chirp. I will put up pics of them as they are really cute.

Awwww .... Coco & Fergus sound absolutely delightful! Tell us more!Very Happy

I'm sorry about the loss of Tequila & Pewter, though. Sad They should live much longer lives, these critters, don't you think?

How's Oscar??

I have 2 kittens, just treated them for fleas. Used that stuff that you put on the back of their necks which was tricky because they groom each other so I had to try to keep them seperated.

Hi msolga,

they are two girls (sisters) Lulu and Chichi. They aren't pedigree but they are a lovely black and brown colour with white patches (is that tortoiseshell?) I need to have them neutered soon as they are 6 months old now.

Lulu and Chichi!
Lovely! Very Happy
They don't have to be pedigrees to be utterly fabulous, Dorothy. None of the many I've ever shared a home with have been. All lost, rejected or homeless creatures looking for a good home. Of course, in no time at all they become spoiled little monsters who develop uppity tastes in food! Very Happy

Do your cats dribble when they are purring loads and doing that paddy thing with their paws?

Sadly only one cat right now, Dorothy. Ms Poppy, a 3+ year old rescued from an animal shelter a few months ago.

Yes, she's a big time dribbler, especially during her morning "smoodge time". (Which I have to factor into my getting ready for work routine.)
And yes, she does that thing with her paws. Vivien (an A2K cat lover extraordinaire from the UK) calls this "playing the piano". Don't you think that's a perfect way to describe it? Very Happy

"Playing the Piano" ! Brilliant! gonna use that from now on.

A few weeks ago, on a very hot day, a male friend of mine was sat on the sofa with no top on. Lulu jumped on his knee and attempted to suck his nipple! I was in hysterics.

He looked mortified. He isn't a cat owner himself and therefore not used to their strange wyas!

Sorry I haven't been around for awhile, but this move about killed me and my sister! I had forgotten how exhausting it was since I had been at my old condo. for almost 11 years.

Anyhoo, I'm happy to see everyone and to hear your wonderful and sometimes sad stories.

My Paddy is doing well and adjusting to his new surroundings. He seems to be less needy here, don't know why, but I'll not question it. He spends lots of time out on the porch, listening to all the new sounds and keeping one eye on the ducks and one on the resident cricket!

Our poor little Stanley (Rae's charge who was abandoned) is not quite homeless but we need to find him a good home. He is just adorable, very animated and cuddly with lots of energy.

Prayers please to St. Anthony, Patron Saint of Animals.

Hugs
