Now for cat photos from the Guardian -

Crowned as Top Cat for 2012 is the cat in the baby's seat, but I can't link that by itself.
Here's the article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2012/mar/30/winner-top-cat-2012

Part of the article, re what was learned in the contest:

1. Cats sleep in the strangest positions. The Sleeping Beauty category was the second most popular (after Cutest), and the standard of entries was exceptionally high. Surprisingly, lots of cats like being tucked up under the duvet. However ...

2. Cats don't like being dressed up. OK, we admit it, the Best Catcessory category was a mistake. Cats are just too dignified - and their claws too sharp - to dress them up in sweet little outfits. It's simply wrong. (Santa outfits at Christmas are the only exception to this rule.)

3. Not all cats are cute. They might be handsome or dignified instead, and we should have had a category to reflect this. King of the Jungle, perhaps? Also, kitty talents and acrobatic feats are quite hard to capture on camera - well done to those of you that managed it.

4. Cats really like sinks. Conventional wisdom has it that cats are averse to getting wet, but the many pictures we received of cats curled up in the bathroom sink suggest otherwise. They also like drinking water from anything other than their water bowl: a glass, a vase, the toilet etc. Oh, and they have very long tongues.

5. Guardian cats have great names. We liked the short ones - Dog or Sexy - and we liked the long ones, such as Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Parkinson.

Here's a slide show of the runners up -

Dear MsOlga:
Meet Josephine,our new member of the Nomad household.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/nekonomad/nekonomad0546A.jpg

She's an orphaned eight year old we found through a newspaper ad
placed by our local humane society. She's still recovering from
the trauma of the abrupt change from her former home. Doing nicely,
considering her age.

@neko nomad,

Josephine. Smile
Oh she's beautiful, neko!
And so lucky you found her!
Good on you.
What were her previous circumstances?
She looks like she's been well cared for.

@msolga,
Well, msO, let's just say she was orphaned: you know, like, someone in her former home passed away.
So far it's a happy story now, though.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/nekonomad/nekonomad0547A.jpg

A pet food store assisted in placing her, which is where this
picture was taken. We're waiting a week or so before taking her
to the vet for a physical.

Molly and Hilda both are remarkably accommodating toward her,
and she wanders throughout the house now. She's somewhat defensive,
since she is declawed.

All is well here at Harmony House, 36 Wistful Vista.

@neko nomad,
Aw, a sad story, neko.
Then finding herself, at 8 years old, in a cage in a pet shop waiting for someone to adopt her.
Bless you Nekos ... you're the best!

Maybe that has something to do with the fact that she looks exactly like them? She could be a not-too-distant relative. Smile
How many tabby & white cats have resided at Harmony House by now, I wonder?
Lucky cats, all of them!

@msolga,
Please pardon my delay in replying, MsO; you see, Im up to my hips in a
construction project outdoors.

As soon as Josephine gets past her camera shyness- she goes and hides under the sofa when I point a camera her way -I'll post her picture here.

She's looking very comfortable & settled in, neko.
That took no time at all!
Pretty little thing, isn't she?

@msolga,

I'm kind of wondering, MsOlga, as to who's going to have to get along with whom
after Josephine's new lifestyle is firmly in place. She's now the biggest cat.
Up to now Hilda gets along with Molly.

@neko nomad,
The biggest cat won't necessarily be the "boss cat", neko.
Not from my experience of felines, anyway.
I have known some quite assertive little cats! Wink
But really hoping there will be few pecking order problems with the others as she settles in.

@msolga,
Although the pecking order is usually determined by personality, sometimes a cat is so much bigger that other cats will view the big one as the leader.

This happened with my late, lamented Mikey and two Siamese from down the hall. The female Siamese was very assertive. The two of them encountered Mikey in the hall. They both instantly rolled over on their backs. Interesting and amazing to watch it play out.
