Very pretty fluffy cat, hinge! Smile
But I wonder what s/he is stalking so intently?

The artists of this comic just received the kitten (black and white cat) a week or so ago from an owner of a laundromat. They plan on chronicling the kittens interaction with the cat already in residence (the bigger black cat).

@tsarstepan,
That's too funny.

roland was a full grown black cat when we got killer whale otis.

That cartoon pretty much describes it. Well, except that otis only did the "ignore" & "rub against stuff" thing. roland insisted on engaging with him regularly the first few week, and otis just said things like "excuse me, did you have an appointment?
Now their both grown.

They're sleeping 1/4 inch away from each other right now.

Hey guys and gals,
The cartoon and conversation about cats "interacting" made me want to ask y'all a question. Does anyone else own a pair (or more) of cats who simply cannot get along? We have to arrange everyone in a routine so that two of our cats (George and Joe) are never unsupervised around Cleo. It's a constant schedule of moving cats around and closing off areas of the house.

When we all first got together we figured that after a time of adjustment, they'd work out a natural order and coexist, but that never happened. Cleo is literally not safe around those two. They almost killed her once.

Since getting rid of any of them isn't really an option, we've gotten accustomed to the musical chairs we have to do to make it work.

I met a veterinarian who has a similar situation in his home.
Anybody here ever experience this?

@snood,
No, luckily, but I've only had four cats, and the semi feral one showed up after the other cats' years of life.

@snood,
Are they desexed snood? I can't say I've had any experience with something like that, it must be awful.

Our two don't really get along; the older ragdoll will thump the young Maine Coon if he gets too close, but there's no spitting and the Coon takes it in his stride. He's not really fearful but occasionally wary of the other one. The Coon is just as happy to play with the dogs so it's three against one.

@hingehead,
Yup, all spayed or neutered. It was the strangest thing to find out about that vicious, bully side of my two boys.

So strange that George and Joe don't like that particular kitty.

Does she go out of her way to avoid them i.e. leave the room they're in?

@chai2,
My husbands out of town for the week, and poor otis is befuddled by it all.

roland has always been my big boyfriend, and after getting to know you, is interactive with people, interested in what you're doing, etc.

otis on the other hand, is more of a "cat cat" except for how he is with Wally. He's a very nice, polite easy-going boy, just mostly has a "oh, it's you" mindset toward anyone besides Wally.
At bedtime otis sleeps next to Wally, sits on him or the end of the recliner while Wally watches TV, etc. otis climbs up his chest and touches noses with him too.

So Wally's not here, and otis is like "excuse me, where's my human?"

I've been beating otis with one of those satin covered clothes hangers. He really likes that. Seriously.

You start whacking him on the head, sides, back and butt and he starts purring loudly and making little grunting noises. If you stop he'll look at you like "Did I tell you to stop?"
When I finally do stop and drop it on the floor (this one is his because the hook part broke off), he grabs it, hugs his arms around it and uses it as a pillow for a while.

No wire hangers though. That would be wrong.

@chai2,
That's some funny stuff, chai. I love hearing those little anecdotes about life with cats.
To answer the question about if Cleo leaves the area when the boys are around- she doesn't have to. We manage the space in the house now so that she's always on the side of the house with just Princess and Dash, and the boys are on the other side. We had a door installed for the sole purpose of separating our cats when we weren't around. We have a whole daily routine now of switching sides to let all the cats have access to the whole house.

I've noticed that Archie the Maine Coon likes to lie on things that show off his colouring. After some dog shenanigans there were two empty shopping bags on the floor next to each other. One blue, one green. If you were ginger/salmon pink which one would you lie on? He chose green.

I think this guy knew just how stunning his colouring would look on this sofa/lounge/davenport!

@hingehead,
I've never had a cat that knew it looked good on certain colors, but I've had several cats that were extremely vain. I once had a longhaired gray tabby I called Katy Scarlett that would hide around corners preening and arranging all the fur on her huge, feathery tail just so, then "casually" saunter out in front of guests. She was gorgeous, and she oh-so-obviously knew it.

@hingehead,
What a beautiful grey cat, hinge!
Mind you, I am biased.
It looks very much like Rats, a dearly loved cat I had the pleasure of sharing my life with a few years ago. (Though he wasn't quite as chunky. Wink )
He had that riveting "stare", too. Used to scare people! Smile

I think Possum-cat is quite aware of colour.

He prefers to sleep on the pink and white crochet rug - which shows off his grey and white colouring quite well - and won't have a bar of the ordinary light blue one - not sufficient contract (or not the right texture) I'd guess. He also has favourite lounge cushions - again it seems as mixture of colour and texture.

He also likes to pose on my plum/burgundy bedspread. He doesn't look too bad on the white sheets, either!
