@blueveinedthrobber,
Miranda made it to 16!!!! Happy Birthday little friend.

She's getting special cuddles tonight....then it's off to the vet for 2 weeks while I am away yet again.

Poor baby.

@dlowan,
Happy birthday Miranda! I know you're on a special diet but still here's some fresh fish for you to spoil yourself!

@tsarstepan,
Sadly, Miranda gave ME a birthday present yesterday...she pissed in my bed.

Shocked Neutral Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

I think that means a new mattress.

@tsarstepan,
She only ever did that once before....when she was desperately sick.

Perhaps she is now so old that the invisible (to my human nose) smells of that earlier episode led her to think in her sleep that she was in the litter box?

Hmmm...I guess there's no point in getting a new mattress until after her death, if this sort of thing is going to happen.

The whole place now reeks of the white vinegar I have used to try to clean up after her.

She also totalled my goose down pillow.

Or perhaps she knows that shortly I shall deliver her to the vet for boarding for TWO WEEKS!!!

She has been very quiet this last week...but her fur looks good, and she has been eating well. And is very happy and responsive when I spend time with her.

@msolga,
LOTS of grief.

I suck.

Still, I feel I should do the outback stuff. However, what if I am fooling myself?

It's always the cat who suffers.

@dlowan,
Aaaaaarrrggghhhhh.

Humans are weird.

I just heard from the vet's that they want to do a blood test on Miranda (as I requested last time but they forgot or mislaid or something) because of her losing weight etc.

So, I, who kind of sort of prides herself on being rational and realistic and Zen and all re the need to accept and not be dumb re the different life-span of pets, am weeping and wailing about whether this means the end for Miranda!!!!!

Have asked vet to call me re whether or not said blood test (which I have approved) if concerning, opens up any further treatment options.

Why the hell have I approved it it if it doesn't?

No, you're not fooling yourself.
And you're probably exhausted from all the travel, plus regular work commitments. Don't know how you can do it all, myself ...

@msolga,
Lol!

Just heard from vet....kidneys have moved into abnormal zone again. They think they can likely keep her comfortable and happy a bit longer with some steroids, so I have ok'd that.

Will see how she goes.

Bright side?

She is a happy little pud.

She is a happy 16 year old and I can make sure she doesn't suffer and has a good death.

We likely have a bit more good time.

So sorry to hear of renewed kidney problems, Deb.
It is good that you found out about this before you went away for two weeks!
(My dear, darling Rats (gosh I loved him!) found himself in a similar (steroid maintenance) predicament, years ago. It's the best you can do, keep them happy & comfortable in those circumstances ..)
